Deckhand – Day/Night Shift

Primary Location: Kitimat, BC

Employee Status: Full Time or Part Time

Salary Range: CA$ 380 to 450 per day

Bridgemans Marine Transport (BMT) is a fully integrated marine service provider, equipped with marine certified crew and a fleet of unique assets servicing industrial projects around the world. Bridgemans and Haisla First Nation have created a joint venture limited partnership - Bridgemans Kitamaat Joint Venture Limited Partnership (BKJV) to provide marine and construction services to various industries on the Pacific Northcoast.

The Opportunity

As a Deckhand on the Safety and Security Vessel, your main duties are to ensure the safety of life, the vessel, and the prevention of marine pollution while working within the established health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures of the Company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lookout duties as assigned by vessel Captain.
  • Safety and security rounds as assigned.
  • Safety of passengers during embarking, disembarking, and when underway if required.
  • Assisting in loading/unloading equipment/cargo to and from the vessel both onshore and offshore.
  • Perform safety and security duties as part of the tanker line handling and LNG transfer operations.
  • Monitor transfer of cargo and record as required.
  • Complete inventory counts and report to Captain.
  • Deck duties as directed by Captain, including completed safety checks, engine checks, vessel husbandry, vessel interior and exterior cleaning, and sanitation.
Qualifications
  • Relevant marine experience preferred.
  • MED-DVS Radio Operator Certificate – Marine (ROC-M).
  • Marine Basic or Advanced First Aid (MBFA)/(MAFA).
  • Valid Marine Medical certificate (MMC).
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language (written & verbal).
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring.
  • Bridge Watch rating an asset.
  • OFA Level 3 an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent standing, bending, twisting, and walking throughout the shift.
  • Frequent situations where maintaining balance is essential.
  • Frequent kneeling.
  • Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions.
  • Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.
