Job description
The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

This role is based in the Real-World & Clinical Data Strategy (RWCDS) team which drives data excellence and analytics to power enhanced decision-making and evidence-generation within Roche Product Development. We develop and implement data strategies that unlock the value of clinical, operational, and real-world data to accelerate evidence generation, decision-making, and innovation across PD and beyond. By embedding FAIR principles, advancing data governance, and enabling data productization, RWCDS ensures that data is not only findable and usable, but also a driver of scientific rigor, regulatory readiness, and AI-powered transformation. Through deep partnerships with internal functions and external collaborators, we shape a future-ready data ecosystem that supports personalized healthcare and efficient drug development.

The Opportunity

The Data Steward role ensures that clinical, real-world, and operational data are properly documented, accessible, and trustworthy throughout the product development lifecycle. You will support the implementation of metadata standards, lineage tracking, and FAIR data practices to enable transparency and reuse across stakeholders. Collaborating closely with governance, IT, and scientific teams, you will help develop and maintain data standards, dictionaries, quality rules, and cataloging systems. This role requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of data lifecycle management, and a commitment to enabling data as a reliable asset across the organization.

  • You support the creation and maintenance of data dictionaries, metadata definitions, and lineage documentation for priority data sources
  • You assist in routine data quality assessments and support the classification and cataloging of structured and unstructured datasets
  • You work within existing stewardship procedures and tools to support transparency, traceability, and reusability of development data
  • You build subject matter expertise in data stewardship practices for real-world, clinical, and operational data across Roche’s development landscape
  • You collaborate with senior team members to ensure consistent documentation and alignment with data standards
  • You contribute to knowledge-sharing activities and informal guidance for team members new to data stewardship practices
  • You ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and other relevant standards
  • You contribute to a culture of data stewardship by following data governance principles and best practices
Who you are
  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Information Science, Information Management, or a related discipline
  • You have a minimum of 1-3 years of experience working in a data documentation, quality, or metadata-related role, or an advanced degree with 1-3 years of equivalent work experience
  • You understand clinical or real-world data structures and foundational stewardship practices
  • You have basic experience with documentation tools, spreadsheets, or version control systems
  • You demonstrate capacity for independent thinking and ability to make decisions based upon sound principles
  • You bring excellent strategic agility including problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and agility that extends beyond the technical domain
  • You demonstrate respect for cultural differences when interacting with colleagues in the global workplace
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically in the areas of presentation and writing, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear language
Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare data governance and exposure to data catalogs or classification systems
  • Willingness to learn about regulatory documentation requirements and FAIR data principles
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality metadata and process consistency
