Overview

The Academic Upgrading department at Keyano College is currently seeking Instructors to teach Mathematics courses. This position is a casual contract position on an as needed basis. Applicants must feel comfortable working in a classroom with adults of all abilities and backgrounds.

The Academic Upgrading instructors deliver quality classes and share subject matter expertise with students within the curriculum and course outline. The instructors also enter attendance and grades and perform other duties related to a teaching environment.

Potential Courses

Mathematics – MATH 10C

Foundational Mathematics – AFM 100

Topics covered include linear SI metric and Imperial measurement and conversions; surface area and volume of 3D objects; right triangle trigonometry; apply the power laws with integral and rational exponents; perform all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) on polynomials; factor polynomials; identify, describe, interpret and analyze relations and functions; evaluate functional notation; determine domain and range; graph and define linear relations; solve linear system of two relations.

This course enables students to develop an understanding of number sense which will be applied to further math concepts to help you achieve an overall understanding of mathematics. Learning through the practice of algebraic; geometric; measurement; probability and statistical; and, graphical theory using a model of real-world practical application is an important aspect of this course.

Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB. Preference will be given to candidates currently living in Fort McMurray.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Successful Candidate Will Be Required To

  • Primarily teach their specific courses across the curriculum
  • Maintain office hours and student mentorship/engagement
  • Maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction, ensuring students’ awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques, as well as recruitment, tutoring and academic counseling of students.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master’s in Mathematics or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with significant teaching experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 1-year cumulative post-secondary teaching experience. Other teaching experience may be considered.
  • Proficient with the use of learning technologies
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Dependable and resourceful team member with a proven track record of managing multiple competing priorities with a calm professional approach
  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity
