Qualifications

  • Provides clerical support for special projects involving credentialing activities.

Overview

The Credentialing Clerk is an integral member of the Credentialing Team, who performs a variety of clerical functions to support departmental activities. The Credentialing Clerk must be able to pay close attention to detail and have excellent organizational skills. The position requires the ability to work well with a variety of internal and external customers. Outstanding customer service skills are essential to the position.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up and maintains electronic files for individuals applying for appointment or reappointment; files all documentation received into appropriate physician files; maintains confidentiality of all credentialing information.
  • As directed, performs data entry of applicant’s credentialing information into computerized records, e.g. education, hospital affiliation, DEA, license and insurance carrier into the credentialing database.
  • As directed, conducts primary source verifications (e.g. licensure, DEA, board certification) for applicants applying for appointment and/or re-appointment to the medical and ancillary services.
  • As directed, contacts various institutions, governmental organizations and disciplinary agencies, by telephone or in writing, to obtain outstanding documentation and verify information received about applicants.
  • As directed, processes routine responses to inquiry letters from other institutions concerning appointment status, malpractice and misconduct information (e.g., checks files, types letters) and required by NYS Public Health Law 2805(k), and in response to managed care inquiries.
  • Prepares packets of information on applicants for Credentials Committee and Medical Matters and Quality Care Issues Committee.
  • Performs general clerical functions for the department, e.g. sorts and distributes mail, maintains par levels of needed supplies, responds to telephone inquiries.
  • Assists in the preparation of credentialing files for managed care and regulatory surveys.
  • Provides clerical support for special projects involving credentialing activities.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Qualifications

Education:

High school graduation or equivalent required.

Experience:

1-2 years of clerical experience required, preferably in a hospital or health care setting.

Skills:

Basic data entry skills.

Basic familiarity with word processing preferred.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Pay Range: USD $50,817.00 - USD $55,220.00 /Yr.
