The Claims Adjuster 2, Casualty contributes to Wawanesa's goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims experience through proactive and fair investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of moderate to high casualty claims. This role is responsible for applying and explaining policy coverages and documenting claim files throughout the life of a claim. The role is accountable for providing timely service and prompt management of claims from initial report to conclusion.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide the best defense for members through proactive, fair, and thorough liability, coverage, and quantum investigation.
- Ensure timely and effective communication via voice, digital, and written correspondence, addressing all inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Adjust casualty claims of moderate to high complexity.
- Review and interpret policy wordings, determine coverage, and communicate decisions to members.
- Establish accurate loss and expense reserves throughout the claim process by evaluating relevant information from various sources such as independent adjusters, medical, legal, financial, and vocational experts.
- Conduct comprehensive investigations to determine coverages and liability, adhering to Wawanesa’s guidelines, and engaging appropriate internal and external resources as needed.
- Coordinate services with vendors and service providers such as lawyers, engineers, accountants, and health practitioners.
- Negotiate with claimants, lawyers, and other insurers to resolve claims favorably for members. Manage claims in litigation, mediation, or arbitration, and provide instructions to counsel.
- Maintain an effective diary system and document claim activities in accordance with procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of policy coverages, comply with regional regulatory and licensing requirements, and stay current with legislative changes and industry trends.
- Participate in private mediations, court proceedings, and other dispute resolutions as required.
- Contribute to employee development through training, guidance, and coaching.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Exceptional customer service skills demonstrating empathy and concern for member satisfaction.
- At least 2 years of insurance adjusting experience or equivalent.
- Post-secondary degree preferred.
- Willingness to work toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and meet licensing requirements.
- Knowledge of medical and legal terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Strong investigative and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Negotiation, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
- Teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
