(Neegan) are expanding our team in conjunction with the recent opening of the Thunder Bay office, and we’re seeking a well-rounded Civil Engineering Technician / Technologist who brings a mix of field and design experience with a passion to shape and improve our community’s municipal infrastructure, roadways, bridges, culverts, and drainage systems.

At Burnside, the difference is our people. We foster a welcoming and collaborative culture where you'll thrive in a connected environment that champions mentorship and career development supported by colleagues across the organization. Our teams work with public, Indigenous, and private sector clients on diverse range of civil infrastructure projects including land development, municipal roadways, linear infrastructure, drainage and hydrology, water/wastewater systems, solid waste, and stormwater management.

What You’ll Do

As a Civil Engineering Technologist or Technician, you’ll help deliver high-quality municipal, land development and First Nation projects that improve community infrastructure. You may also undertake projects under the Drainage Act. You’ll play a key role in ensuring designs are accurate, constructible, and completed on time, including the following roles and tasks:

  • Deliver functional, preliminary, and detailed designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D that meet project requirements for roads, municipal infrastructure, drainage, bridges and culverts.
  • Produce clear, coordinated drawings (plans, profiles, and sections) that support efficient construction and minimize rework.
  • Develop cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and tender packages that help clients make informed, cost-effective decisions.
  • Perform accurate fieldwork – including surveying, layout, and inspection – to verify design accuracy and support successful project delivery.
  • Operate Total Stations and GPS systems to ensure reliable data collection and seamless integration into design workflows.
  • Support contract administration through proactive site reviews, timely reporting, and effective communication with contractors.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and collaborate closely with colleagues to achieve project quality, budget, and schedule goals.
What You Bring
  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Technician program and eligibility for CET designation.
  • Proficiency in design software, particularly AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience in a consulting environment (considered an asset).
  • Knowledge of the Drainage Act (considered an asset)
  • A genuine interest in contributing to community development

This is your chance to kickstart your career by working on meaningful projects that impact communities. At Burnside, we prioritize mentorship and foster an environment where you can learn, grow, and thrive. You’ll join a team that values innovation, teamwork, and a passion for civil engineering.
