Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Career Development Services, the Career Counsellor, Career Services is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of career development programs for all students and alumni. In addition, this position leads in the provision of group and individual counselling and advising services designed to guide students through all facets of career planning, employment preparation, and the transition to full-time employment and/or advanced levels of study. The Career Counsellor, Career Services, works with the Manager as well as other team members to develop and implement appropriate service measures for career services, and in the identification, implementation and tracking of key strategic objectives as they pertain to programming provided in the areas of service to all students and alumni. The Career Counsellor, Career Services is also responsible for researching and evaluating best practices and approaches for counselling, group facilitation and overall service delivery for Career Services. The Career Counsellor, Career Services has regular reporting responsibilities to the Manager regarding the efficiency and efficacy of their Career Counselling sessions as well as statistical evaluation of overall Career Centre program effectiveness. As one of the senior service positions within the Career Services, this position will be a primary contributor to any audits and reports requested by Senior University Management. This position is also considered a key player in the overall promotion and development of Career Services to the campus and external community.

Education And Experience

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Two year Master’s – level degree (Counselling Psychology) or in Education (Counselling Specialty including an Internship)
  • Five years career counselling in a university or college setting.
