The Opportunity

As the Waterfront Director at Camp Glenburn, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational waterfront experience for all campers. You will lead the planning and execution of water activities, manage lifeguard schedules, oversee equipment care, and provide swimming instruction. Your leadership will help create an environment where campers can learn new skills and have fun in a safe setting.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and instruct a summer-long CIT Lifesaving training program to ensure all participants achieve their Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certifications by the end of the summer.
  • Oversee the safety standards on Camp Glenburn’s waterfront, supervise lifeguards, and coordinate with the Canoe & Kayak Director to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • Plan and implement proper swim instruction for various interest group levels.
  • Care for, store, and manage the inventory of all waterfront equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and implement camp-wide water emergency procedures.
  • Assist in planning and delivering staff training for all camp counselors.
  • Provide a final report to the Camp Director prior to the completion of your contract.
  • Ensure that all campers, CITs, and staff are treated with respect, understanding, and compassion.
  • Maintain a peaceful, positive, and educational environment throughout the camp.
  • Understand and adhere to Child Protection Practices.
  • Be a positive role model in all aspects of camp life, particularly with regards to health, behavior, dress, and relationships with others.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Ongoing or completed Bachelor’s degree, Community College diploma, or similar qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a Camp or Youth Program setting.
  • N.L.S. Waterfront Certification required.
  • N.L.S Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross Instructor certification is an asset.
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card is an asset.
  • Flexibility with working hours and site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Team player with the ability to share leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A commitment to living on-site at Camp Glenburn from June to September.
  • Employment is contingent on clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Social Development Clearance Check.
