Shift Timing: Sunday to Monday, 08:00 am – 04:00 pm
Job Summary: The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of Phoenix Centre and ensures that operational quality and licensing standards are maintained. Works to ensure a safe, well-maintained, and healthy environment.
Responsibilities
Client Services:
- Monitor and assess resident behaviours and client movement in and out of the building
- Monitor curfews of residents returning to the Centre and Supportive Housing Programs
- Conduct random (or client-requested) basic wellness checks on clients that may require support. Overdose precaution/response. Clients are encouraged to use overdose prevention sites/designated safe use areas. Carry out duties in accordance with health and safety protocols
- Observe and accurately document resident behaviour using concrete, factual descriptions
- Report behaviours to supervisory staff that pose a risk to the resident, other residents, staff and/or the community
- Assist clients with the development of life skills, healthy daily living, social activities, meeting obligations, keeping appointments, and promoting social and interpersonal skills by modelling appropriate actions, acting as a positive role model
- Engage with residents and ensure safety and adherence to program agreements
- Encourage awareness of interdependence of community members and the value of responsible concern for self and others
- Deliver meals; clients can request deliveries to their room if mobility issues/hardship exist; cook will box and prepare a “to-go” style meal for delivery
- Assist new residents with welcome gifts sourced from donations (cleaning products, towels, coffee, etc.)
- Debrief with incoming shifts to ensure detailed transfer of information (e.g., concerns)
- Support and promote a safe environment regarding relations with staff, program participants, and community members
- Support and promote a safe, well-maintained building and work environment; address trespassers as needed
- Complete regular rounds of the facility as scheduled
- Assist the manager in organizing and distributing food and clothing donations
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Certificate in Community Social Service or equivalent
- Recent, related experience of one year working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etc., or equivalent
- Satisfactory completion of Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening
- Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record
- First Aid 1 and current CPR certificate
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems
- Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment (telephone, fax, photocopier, printer, computerized building security monitoring system)

Salary: Salary for this role is between $27.92 - $29.60 per hour.
