The location in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking talent to fill the position of Business Analyst.

This job is permanent and full-time.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities

The Business Analyst reports to the controller and is accountable for the efficient delivery and reporting of financial information.

The Business Analyst plays a key role in month-end processes and related accounting assignments. This position participates in key initiatives and provides manufacturing cost, operating and financial analysis to support business decisions.

The Business Analyst also plays a key role in the development of the annual operating plans for the mills. Strong leadership, communication, and variance analysis skills are vital to this position, as is the ability to build a working knowledge of the mill’s cost structure and processes.

Key skills and duties assigned to this role include
  • Key duties for the Business Analyst include the following month-end functions:
    • Production setting.
    • Furnish balancing.
    • Product cost allocations.
    • Grade costing.
    • Product Statement preparation and related Reporting.
  • Preparation and reporting of monthly latest view forecasts for the Port Alberni mill. Specifically latest view production setting and furnish balance. Coordinate the Latest view forecast process including submissions to Corporate Finance (Richmond & Fort Mill).
  • Preparation of ad hoc financial analysis for mill operations and product costing.
  • Strategic Planning – key role in building of the strategic plan. Focus on grade mix, production setting, furnish balancing, and costing.
  • New product development support. Work with the Mill Production and Corporate Sales teams to support new product development assessments, costing, and profitability.
  • Supporting role for the Port Alberni Continuous Improvement Initiatives Work with the Mill and Corporate Teams to identify, record and track all continuous Improvement projects.
  • Preparation of the annual operating plan for assigned manufacturing cost elements. These include production setting, furnish balance, grade costing, and other natural elements as assigned.
  • Provides a support and training role for new hires and less experienced finance staff members.
Required Processional Experience/Qualification
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of similar experience
  • CPA designation is an asset.

Salary Rate: $79,000 to $96,000 per annum (actual salary offer will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
