Band 5 Staff Nurse - Stem Cell Transplant Unit

The Staff Nurse role within the Stem Cell Transplant Unit offers the opportunity to work in a highly specialist cancer setting, delivering complex and individualised care to patients undergoing advanced oncological and haematological treatments. You will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing to excellent clinical outcomes while developing specialist knowledge and competencies within stem cell transplant and cancer nursing.

Main duties of the job

As a Staff Nurse within the Stem Cell Transplant Unit, you will deliver high standards of safe, compassionate and evidence based care to patients with complex oncological and haematological needs. You will act as the named nurse for your patients, undertaking holistic assessments, planning and evaluating care, and maintaining accurate clinical records. The role involves close multidisciplinary working, adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, participation in clinical audits and research activity and ongoing development of specialist competencies including chemotherapy administration and stem cell transplant care.

Job Title: Band 5 Staff Nurse
Salary: £40,461 - £47,280 (depending on experience)
Department: Oncology Haematology
Location: The Duchess of Devonshire Wing, 22 Devonshire Place
Hours: 37.5 per week, full‑time on rotation (Longdays & Longnights)
Reporting to: Ward Manager

Key Duties
  • Act as the named nurse for individualised patient care using a holistic approach
  • Provide expert nursing care for patients with oncological and haematological needs
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical records
  • Promote safe practice, professional conduct and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Support orientation and training of new staff and contribute to departmental projects
  • Achieve and maintain clinical competencies, including chemotherapy administration
  • Participate in research, audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Adhere to infection prevention, safeguarding and health and safety policies
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Acute hospital experience
  • Excellent communication, decision‑making and organisation skills
  • Willingness to undertake further haematology training
  • Flexible and team‑oriented attitude
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Chemotherapy administration certification (e.g. UKONS SACT, ENB 237/998)
  • Haematology or stem cell transplant experience
  • Familiarity with CVADs and phlebotomy
  • Understanding of JACIE‑FACT standards and CAR‑T cell therapy
