Functional Automation Tester

Sora, an ADP company, is hiring a Lead Functional Automation Tester.

This role is for a motivated team player based in Brazil to work closely with Sora’s product and development teams in the United States, across most US time zones. Strong written and verbal communication skills, availability for virtual meetings, and prompt asynchronous responses are essential to keep everything running smoothly.

Sora/Enhanced Workflows, an HR Workflow automation product, is empowering people-focused teams to create exceptional employee experiences. HR teams should be spending time with people, but unfortunately all facets of People teams are bogged down by managing processes instead of helping people. That’s where Sora/Enhanced Workflows comes in: we’re building a product that streamlines the tedious and repetitive work People teams do every day, from sending emails to assigning onboarding tasks to a new hire’s manager to syncing data across anywhere from 3 to 20 tools in a customer’s HR stack.

As a Lead Functional Automation Tester, you'll be an integral part of the agile and dynamic Sora engineering team. We take a startup mindset—focused, action-oriented, and quick to execute, while always being thoughtful in our approach.

In this pivotal role, you'll collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders—including Product Managers, Architects, DevOps, and development teams —spanning the US and Brazil. Your primary mission: design, develop, execute, and maintain a comprehensive functional automation test suite to ensure our applications avoid regressions in our weekly releases and new features/functionality work as designed.

You will champion automation testing as an integral part of our SDLC, driving continuous improvement and ensuring our products deliver exceptional user outcomes.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Design and Lead Automation Testing: Develop, execute and maintain automated tests for existing high priority system functionality and new features/projects as they are built by development teams.
  • Develop Testing Frameworks: Design and build a functional automation framework to which new test cases can be added easily.
  • Analyze & Optimize: Monitor test runs, identify test failures vs. Application code failures and optimize automation tests to reduce false-positives, enhance scalability and reliability of the tests.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with development and product teams to understand requirements, define test cases/scenarios for automation, and ensure alignment.
  • Automate & Integrate: Embed automation testing into CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid feedback and continuous performance validation.
  • Report & Communicate: Provide clear, actionable insights to stakeholders through detailed reports and presentations.
  • Stay Industry-Forward: Keep current with the latest tools, methodologies, and best practices in automation testing.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 5+ years designing, developing, executing, and maintaining automation tests for complex web applications, including back-end services, APIs and front-end/UI components.
  • Technical Skills:

o Extensive experience with test automation frameworks, such as Selenium, Cucumber for Behavior Driven Development (BDD)

o Extensive experience with scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, Groovy).

o Familiarity with NodeJS, React (or similar modern frameworks), relational databases like Postgres, and CI tools such as Jenkins.

o Extensive experience writing test cases and test scenarios, from scratch, for existing systems and new features/projects, with the end goal of automating these tests.

  • Architectural Insight: Proven experience designing and implementing a test automation framework for a web-based application (not only writing tests within an established framework).
  • Collaboration & Communication: Proven success working across teams and communicating complex findings clearly and effectively. You understand that an agile environment requires flexibility and will manage time constraints and fluidity of work to deliver test automation as part of each functional release (not as an after-thought).
  • Leadership: As a lead engineer, you inspire best practices, mentor team members, and drive initiatives forward.
