A global sports organization is seeking a Senior Accountant in Rio de Janeiro. The candidate will oversee accounting integrity and prepare financial statements in accordance with local GAAP and IFRS. The role includes managing a team, month-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. An accounting degree and experience in an international environment are required, along with fluency in English and Portuguese.

Qualificações

• Proven experience (4 years or more) as accounting supervisor and/or senior accountant.
• Experience in an international environment.
• Experience in Event Finance is an advantage.

Senior Accountant

FIFA27 will be established as the Local FIFA Subsidiary in Brazil, to work together with FIFA HQ in Zurich and globally, to deliver the biggest women’s sporting event in the world, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 (“FWWC2027”).

THE POSITION

The Senior Accountant will ensure the integrity of accounting and prepares accurate and timely financial statements and documents, in line with local GAAP and IFRS. Responsible for month end close activities; responsible for performing balance sheet, revenue, expense, and payroll account reconciliations, as well as executing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Assists with external audit, budgets and special projects as needed. To manage, supervising and motivate a small team of Accountants and provide effective guidance and leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leading function in Month End and Year End closing activities.
• Verifying and performing payments to suppliers & manage cash flow, and ensures all payments are properly approved prior payment.
• To review transactions to assure accounting treatment is in accordance with IFRS and with internal accounting regulations.
• To review general ledger accounts and makes necessary journal entries including posting monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals.
• To prepare and record Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Fixed Assets entries by compiling and analysing account information.
• To post payroll entries, to reconcile of social charges, bonus accrual and pay out.
• To analyse and review company expenditures.
• Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.
• Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.
• Assist with tax audits, and tax returns and consumption tax returns.
• Lead, plan, assign and review staff’s work.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and FIFA Accounting principles.
• To provide necessary support for internal customers and external auditors.
• To seek ways to improve upon accounting processes and procedures.
• To assist the Head of Finance and the management on special requests.

YOUR PROFILE

Experience and qualifications

• Degree in Accounting
• Proven experience (4 years or more) as accounting supervisor and/or senior accountant
• Experience in an international environment
• Experience using/maintaining a financial ERP model (e.g. SAP)
• Experience in Event Finance of advantage
• Experience in procurement of advantage
• Good communication skills, ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
• Very good sense for responsibility
• Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
