The Utilities Planner is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and management of utility systems within capital projects at ADA. This role ensures that utility infrastructure—including water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications is effectively integrated into airport expansion and modernization projects. The Utilities Planner plays a critical role in aligning utility planning with airport master plans, regulatory requirements, and operational needs to support the successful delivery of capital projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage utility plans and strategies for capital projects, including water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications systems.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as project managers, engineers, and airport operations teams to integrate utility systems into project designs.
- Ensure utility planning aligns with airport master plans and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the planning, design, and implementation phases of utility infrastructure projects.
- Prepare, review, and manage project documentation, including scope of work, schedules, and budgets.
- Monitor project progress and resolve utility-related issues that may impact timelines, quality, or performance.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing utility systems and infrastructure.
- Obtain required permits and approvals for utility installations and modifications.
- Stay informed of changes in regulations, standards, and industry best practices related to utilities and infrastructure.
- Act as the primary point of contact for utility-related matters between the airport authority, contractors, utility providers, and regulatory agencies.
- Facilitate coordination meetings and provide regular updates on utility planning and project status to stakeholders.
- Review and approve utility design plans to ensure compliance with technical standards and project requirements.
- Apply technical expertise to evaluate and resolve complex utility issues.
- Identify potential risks associated with utility planning and implement mitigation strategies.
- Address and resolve utility-related conflicts or challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements and Skills
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Utility Management, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications are preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility planning, infrastructure management, or a related field, with a focus on capital projects.
- Experience in airport or transportation infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of utility systems, including design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in project management software and utility design tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder coordination.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Knowledge of safety standards and best practices related to utility systems and construction sites.
