Market Surveillance Analyst

Position Title: Market Surveillance & Compliance Analyst

Reports To: Compliance Manager

Type: Full-Time

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Market Surveillance & Compliance Analyst to join our compliance team. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in market surveillance and compliance, with a strong interest in crypto and blockchain technology. This role will involve both transaction and trading monitoring activities, identifying potential market abuse and money laundering, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor market activity, including order flows, prices and volumes, to identify potential signs of market abuse, financial crime, or misconduct.
  • Interrogate data to detect suspicious trading behaviour, such as market manipulation, spoofing, layering, pump and dumps, and other forms of market abuse.
  • Investigate suspected breaches of rules and market abuse, managing cases and issuing correspondence to market participants.
  • Ensure that surveillance reviews are performed properly from a qualitative and timeliness perspective.
  • Utilise market surveillance tools and systems to analyse trading patterns and generate alerts for further investigation.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of trading activities to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in testing, enhancing, and maintaining market surveillance systems and procedures.
  • Prepare detailed reports on suspicious activities, including Suspected Market Abuse Referral (SMAR) for submission to regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare MI reporting and ensure accurate and timely reporting to all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, senior management, and external parties, such as regulatory bodies, to address market integrity issues.
Compliance Monitoring
  • Support the execution of compliance monitoring programmes, including transaction monitoring, customer due diligence (CDD), and know your customer (KYC) processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in market surveillance and compliance, preferably within the financial services or cryptocurrency industry.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, trading concepts, and crypto exchanges.
  • Experience using market surveillance tools and compliance software.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to self-motivate.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with market abuse regulations and compliance frameworks.
