About The Position
Wynn Al Marjan Island is currently seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join the resort’s Information Technology team.
The Primary Duties And Responsibilities Of This Role Are
- Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of advanced data platforms and pipelines, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to deliver robust data solutions.
- Oversee the development and optimization of highly scalable ETL/ELT processes on cloud infrastructure using technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure Data Factory.
- Drive initiatives for data quality, profiling, validation, and monitoring through automated and intelligent anomaly detection systems.
- Define and enforce data engineering best practices, coding standards, and reusability principles across the team.
- Translate complex business requirements into well-architected technical solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy.
- Design and manage both batch and real-time data ingestion and streaming pipelines using tools like Kafka, Event Hubs, or Kinesis.
- Lead enterprise data modeling efforts, optimizing logical and physical data models for analytics, operations, and machine learning readiness.
- Build scalable and governed data lakes, lakehouses, and data marts to support a wide variety of data consumers.
- Champion data governance practices, collaborating with compliance teams to embed security, privacy, and integrity controls across all pipelines.
- Integrate automated data quality frameworks and implement self-healing mechanisms for improved reliability and performance.
- Produce comprehensive documentation including architectural diagrams, data flow maps, runbooks, and lineage tracking artifacts.
- Evaluate and implement cutting-edge tools and frameworks for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and observability.
- Lead pilot projects to validate emerging technologies, accelerating innovation within the organization.
- Develop and maintain low-latency, real-time data streaming solutions to support critical business operations and decision-making.
- Design modular, reusable, and parameterized pipelines to support multiple data domains and scale with business growth.
- Ensure system uptime and SLAs are met by proactively maintaining and optimizing performance and reliability of ingestion tools.
- Continuously improve pipeline efficiency by identifying performance bottlenecks and reducing compute/storage costs.
- Collaborate with analytics and data science teams to deliver curated, production-grade datasets that drive meaningful insights.
- Build comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for pipelines to ensure real-time awareness and minimal downtime.
- Stay current with data engineering trends, tools, and methodologies; propose adoption strategies and roadmap enhancements.
- Implement DevOps best practices in the data lifecycle, including CI/CD for pipelines, automated testing, and version control.
- Regularly assess and upgrade data engineering tools and services to remain aligned with industry best practices and innovation.
- Participate in enterprise initiatives involving serverless architectures, REST/GraphQL APIs, and cloud-native microservices.
- Facilitate internal knowledge sharing via technical workshops, peer reviews, and training sessions for continuous team development.
- The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications:
About You
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred but not mandatory.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering roles, including 3+ years in architectural capacity.
- Proven track record of building, scaling, and leading complex data engineering platforms in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience designing cloud-native data solutions (Azure preferred), including data Lakehouse architectures.5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, demonstrating consistent career progression and technical growth.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with strong skills in performance tuning, modular coding, and automation scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
- Deep expertise in cloud-native data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, and Databricks, with extensive hands-on experience in PySpark and distributed computing.
- Strong command of data orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks Workflows for managing complex multi-stage data pipelines.
- Proficient in using DBT for transformation logic and data modeling; experience with data replication platforms like Qlik Replicate or Fivetran is highly desirable.
- In-depth understanding of big data processing architectures and frameworks for handling high-throughput and low-latency requirements.
- Strong background in version control systems (GitHub, Azure DevOps) and automation pipelines (CI/CD) for infrastructure and code deployments.
- Advanced understanding of serverless technologies and microservices using Azure Functions, APIs (FastAPI or Flask), and event-driven systems.
- Expertise in creating secure, well-documented APIs for internal data access and external integrations.
- Demonstrated ability to build, document, and maintain highly maintainable and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Solid experience in dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and best practices for data warehouse development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to influence, mentor, and align technical teams and stakeholders.
