POSITION SUMMARY
The Events Technical Manager will oversee the production and event process, coordinating all production operations, ensuring that a high-quality experience is delivered to both event clients and guests. They will be responsible for scheduling all production staff throughout the year, ensuring proper coverage for each event and production. The Events Technical Manager will manage budgets, negotiate quotes from contractors and vendors, develop workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality. Additionally, they are expected to fill in other roles or duties as needed for events, such as but not limited to stage management, lighting technician, audio engineer, projectionist, live streaming and/or video production technician. This position works collaboratively with the event coordination team to provide guidance in technical operations and consultation for future events.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Determines necessary technical support for events and performances in advance of production dates.
- Directly supervises a staff of two technicians, providing leadership, performance management, and support for all technical event functions. Orients clients and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and areas of facility operations. Schedules and oversees technical team, providing supervision, training, and evaluation.
- Advises production team on technical specifications and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
- Facilitates synergistic communication with Event Coordinators and internal stakeholders, such as facilities and security.
- Effectively oversee and manage loading in, technical rehearsals, event operations, and load out to optimally serve productions and events while maximizing efficiencies.
- Develops routine systems to guarantee constant monitoring of critical areas of the event spaces ensuring safety practices on daily basis.
- Provides assessments and suggestions for operational efficiency, maintenance, and facility improvements as needed in event spaces and supporting spaces.
- Provides on-site support and oversight during events and live performances to ensure overall success. Be able to act as the following roles which include but not limited to: Audio Engineer, Lighting Technician, Projectionist, Video Production Technician and/or Stage Manager.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Events.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
- Education Qualifications B.A. or B.F.A. in Theater Studies or related field experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in theater and live event technical environment.
- Previous supervisory experience
Abilities/Attributes
- Working knowledge of lighting, rigging, live and streaming telecasts, audio and video technology, projections, 3D Mapping and their related operational skills.
- Experience with and working knowledge of the following A/V systems and equipment strongly preferred: Lighting (grandMA2 ultra-light, ETC), Show control systems (Medialon), Audio mixing, DSP, recording, and amplification (Yamaha QL5, QSC Q-Sys, Meyer, JBL, Tannoy), Video playback, recording, switching, and distribution (Crestron, Alcorn McBride, Watchout, Seventh Sense), Video monitor and projection equipment (LG, Christie, Panasonic, Planar).
- Working knowledge of IT networking principles and hardware (CAT6/6A, Fiber Optic).
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and required certifications.
- Ability to understand contracts of all levels of complexity relating to concert and stage productions.
- Knowledge of back of house facility maintenance
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Must stay calm under pressure and troubleshoot when issues arise.
