Job Summary

The Educator at World Butterfly Park is responsible for developing and delivering educational programs and activities that engage visitors of all ages in learning about butterflies, their habitats and conservation efforts. This role involves creating interactive and informative experiences, collaborating with other staff to enhance the educational impact of the park and fostering a deeper appreciation for butterflies and their ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Delivery:
    • Design and implement educational programs, workshops, and activities for diverse audiences including school groups, families, and general visitors.
    • Create engaging and interactive learning experiences that highlight butterfly biology, ecology, and conservation.
    • Develop curriculum and educational materials aligned with current scientific knowledge and best practices in environmental education.
  • Visitor Engagement:
    • Conduct guided tours, presentations, and demonstrations for park visitors.
    • Answer questions and provide information about butterflies, plants, and the park's ecosystems.
    • Create and maintain educational displays and exhibits throughout the park.
  • Outreach and Community Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and other educational institutions.
    • Organize and participate in outreach events to promote the park's educational programs and conservation efforts.
    • Coordinate with volunteers and community groups to support educational activities.
  • Conservation Education:
    • Promote awareness of butterfly conservation issues and the importance of preserving their habitats.
    • Develop and deliver programs that inspire visitors to take action in support of conservation efforts.
    • Collaborate with conservation staff to integrate current research and conservation initiatives into educational programming.
  • Training and Mentorship:
    • Train and mentor staff, interns, and volunteers in educational techniques and content.
    • Provide support and guidance to ensure high quality delivery of educational programs.
    • Evaluate and provide feedback on the effectiveness of educational activities.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and update educational materials, lesson plans, and resources for various age groups and learning levels.
    • Ensure materials are accessible, engaging, and aligned with educational standards.
    • Incorporate feedback from participants and staff to continually improve the curriculum.
  • Evaluation and Reporting:
    • Assess the impact of educational programs through surveys, feedback, and other evaluation methods.
    • Prepare reports on program attendance, outcomes, and visitor satisfaction.
    • Use evaluation data to refine and enhance educational offerings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, environmental science, biology, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 23 years of experience in environmental education, teaching, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of butterfly biology, ecology, and conservation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create engaging and interactive educational experiences.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences, including children and adults.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Passion for conservation and environmental education.
Working Conditions
  • Full‑time position with occasional weekend and evening work required.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements include walking, standing, and occasional lifting of materials and equipment.
