Job summary

A leading global mining firm is seeking a Toolstore Attendant in Postmasburg, Northern Cape. Job Description

As our Toolstore Attendant your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used and maintained according to safety regulations.
  • Follow SHE standards when performing any work and read, sign off and adhere to all appropriate work instructions and standards.
  • Attend safety meetings as instructed and keep the allocated area clean and hazard‑free by applying good housekeeping practices.
  • Always apply SLAM/HIRA/Mini HIRA correctly and report safety and health‑related issues.
  • Ensure that work practices do not harm others and take all necessary safety precautions when working on production equipment.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives and promote good housekeeping continuously by adhering to all safety and health standards.

Performance and Delivery

Tools and Equipment Condition:

  • Ensure all tools and equipment are well‑maintained, not lost, and in good condition during handling.
  • Issue spares and tools according to store regulations.
  • Check and clean the condition of all tools/equipment before storing them in a secure location.
  • Report any problems encountered during handling to the supervisor.
  • Inspect tools for damage or wear and ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Escalate to a Supervisor when tools require repair or replacement.
  • Clean and maintain tools to prolong their lifespan.

Spare Parts and Stock:

  • Receive spares from the main stores and enter information in sub‑store documents.
  • Maintain stock numbers as per SPI.
  • Conduct inspections according to set schedules and procedures.
  • Keep stock levels within the standards set in KIO’s SPIs.
  • Issue stock following KIO’s policies and procedures.
  • Record and document the issuance and return of tools, keeping track of who has which tools and when they were taken out or returned.

Timely and Accurate Documentation:

  • Complete all documents within the allowed time frame.
  • Ensure documentation is correct, neat, and legible.
  • Process documents daily in the SAP system.
  • File documents in the existing filing system for record purposes following KIO’s policies and procedures.
  • Discuss job card deviations with the supervisor daily.
  • Complete and authorise leave forms and attendance registers.

Maintenance Support/Assistance:

  • Work with maintenance teams to ensure tools are available for scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Assist employees in selecting the right tools for their tasks.
  • Maintain security measures to prevent theft or unauthorised access to the tool store.

This role is in the Engineering (ENG) department on a band J6 level reporting to the DSO Planning Advisor.
