Senior Associate - Financial Services Lawyer (Newly Qualified – 3 Years or More PQE)

This role is NOT for candidates with debt collection experience!

About the role

SATIC is a delivery centre serving UK PwC and is an independent member of the PwC international network of firms.

Based in South Africa, you will work as part of the PwC Legal UK team located in London, Birmingham and Manchester, handling project-based assignments, specialist legal advice and ongoing general counsel support.

We are looking for a newly qualified to 3-year PQE South African admitted lawyer with a financial services and transactional background.

You will work in a busy, friendly team at Senior Associate level and have the opportunity to influence the future of legal services through technology and innovation.

Role and Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, negotiate, review and assess a wide range of financial services legal documents, including loan agreements (bilateral and syndicated), security, ancillary and CP documents.
  • Provide lending SME support and apply market / industry knowledge of lending transactions within larger PwC engagements.
  • Share knowledge and provide training and tailored lending subject‑matter expertise to colleagues across the PwC network.
  • Support clients in negotiating and executing lending transactions and develop contract negotiation playbooks.
  • Advise on technology‑enabled workflows that support contract preparation, negotiation and execution; contribute to business development by building a network within PwC and developing direct client relationships.
Essential skills / Requirements
  • Qualified and admitted attorney in South Africa or an equivalent common‑law jurisdiction.
  • Strong academic background and experience negotiating loan agreements and advising on lending and security matters, ideally in an in‑house or leading law‑firm setting.
  • Good working knowledge of LMA documentation and current market practice.
  • Deep knowledge of the financial services regulatory landscape affecting banks, insurers, funds, asset managers and other institutions.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong initiative and willingness to embrace innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Capability to work autonomously or as part of a team as required.
  • Experience leading, coaching and managing junior team members and delivering quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Technically proficient in drafting, reviewing and red‑lining documents.
  • Strong IT skills (Office or ).
  • Knowledge or experience in managed legal services or in‑house counsel is an advantage.
Training

Successful candidates will receive comprehensive training to manage transactions governed by the laws of England and Wales, enhancing their capabilities in financial services work.
