This position reports to the Head of Advanced Analytics

Responsibilities
  • Strategic & market analysis including market research and competitor mapping; identifying price, selection, sourcing and brand opportunities.
  • Ability to translate above insights into operational plans with Division Manager.
  • Risk management of performance vs targets: Identify & quantify gaps & opportunities in order to meet & exceed targets.
  • Build seasonal plans /strategies based on historic trends & division strategies.
  • Overseeing demand planning & stock optimisation including budget management.
  • Forward planning of promotional activities & margin management.
  • Create divisional performance monitoring reports including KPI templates & dashboards. Support key supplier meetings with data-driven insights.
  • Own the reporting architecture and manage data integrity.

Qualification & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree, BTech or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics or Data Science or related.
  • 5+ years’ experience in an analytical, finance or management consulting experience.
  • High proficiency in advanced Excel.
  • Experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker or similar to manipulate and analyse large datasets
  • Experience with ETL tools (Python, Knime, R, or similar)
  • Experience using statistical methods such as regression, forecasting and modelling

  • A deep understanding of the retail industry, including market trends, consumer behaviour, and the competitive landscape, is essential. Keeping up to date with industry news and developments is also crucial.
  • Proficiency in data analysis is crucial. Retail analysts should be skilled in using tools like Microsoft Excel, SQL, and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau) to manipulate and analyse large datasets.
  • Knowledge of merchandising strategies, inventory management principles, and supply chain operations is valuable for assessing product performance and optimizing stock levels.
  • Retail analysts should be able to interpret financial statements, assess profitability, and evaluate key financial metrics like gross margin, return on investment (ROI), and inventory turnover.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods and tools is useful for conducting hypothesis testing, forecasting demand, and conducting regression analyses to identify correlations and patterns.
  • Conducting market research, including surveys, focus groups, and competitor analysis, can help retail analysts gather valuable insights into customer preferences and market dynamics.
  • Familiarity with retail-specific software and technology, such as point-of-sale (POS) systems, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and e-commerce platforms, is beneficial.
  • Understanding: Knowledge of consumer psychology and behaviour is crucial for understanding why customers make purchasing decisions and how to influence their choices.
  • Effective communication is essential for presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Retail analysts should be skilled at identifying problems, generating hypotheses, and devising data-driven solutions to address business challenges.
