SUMMARY
One of our clients, based in Germiston, is seeking a QC Officer/Inspector.
POSITION INFO
Role Summary
- To verify incoming raw materials and outsourced services, including surface treatments, heat treatment, and subcontracted goods, ensuring compliance with specified requirements, approved drawings, and documentation.
- To validate inspection records and Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) against applicable product and customer requirements.
- To conduct routine patrol inspections throughout the manufacturing process, including first-off and last-off inspections on production runs, using calibrated measuring equipment.
- To accurately record inspection results and support production by confirming conformity to drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- To perform in‑house welding verification, part and sub‑assembly inspections, and assembly verification.
- To complete final inspection of finished goods prior to release, ensuring all products meet Company quality requirements and are produced within a safe and controlled working environment.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum Education: Matric with an overall pass mark of 55% or higher, including:
- English
- Mathematics (Pure Mathematics – not Mathematical Literacy)
- Physical Science
Tertiary Education (Advantageous):
- Diploma in or a related field or
- Diploma in Quality Assurance / Quality Control or
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment where no formal tertiary qualification is held
Knowledge Requirements:
- Use of precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.)
- Interpretation of drawings, including customer‑specific requirements
- Basic gear knowledge (spur, helical, shafts, and related components – preferable)
- Basic mathematical competence
- Computer literacy, including: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Quick Easy (or similar ERP/production systems)
Experience:
- With formal tertiary education: Minimum 6 months’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- Without formal tertiary education: Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, of which at least 1 year was in a Quality Control / Inspection role.
Skills Required:
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong reading and comprehension skills
- Excellent visual attention to detail
- Good analytical and problem‑solving ability
KEY DUTIES
- Verify the accuracy, calibration status, and condition of measuring instruments
- Validate first‑off products produced by machinists and record inspection results in accordance with procedures
- Conduct routine patrol inspections to ensure process and product compliance
- Perform visual inspections for fit, form, and appearance
- Raise Non‑Conformance Reports where deviations are identified
- Isolate, quarantine, and control non‑conforming products in line with procedures
- Accurately complete and update QC documentation and records
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in inspection work area
- Perform all duties in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements

- Physically able to conduct inspections, handle measuring tools, and access all areas of the production floor
