Main purpose of position

We are looking for a Project Manager in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team and work towards the vision "Improving our future".

Main Responsibilities
  • Support during elaboration, highlight local requirements, review and approve contracts and schedules; be part of negotiations and evaluations, and perform due diligence.
  • Organize and lead kick-off meetings with suppliers and contractors, define actions, log actions, and set regular weekly follow-up meetings.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with main contractors to monitor progress, discuss critical tasks, plan future activities, and develop recovery plans.
  • Follow up and coordinate internally all deliverables that Scatec must provide to contractors, ensuring they are available as planned (licenses, permits, engineering inputs, drawings, technical specifications, free‑issued materials, etc.).
  • Report deviations to the Project Manager / Project Director.
  • Recruit and manage the team in the country according to the project organization chart, establishing a strong and efficient management team for the execution phase.
  • In cooperation with the Site Manager, manage health and safety, environmental management, security, logistics and warehouse, quality control, document control, progress measurement of site activities, and community liaison (including grievance response).
  • Ensure basic services at the site (security, entrance control, office facilities, vehicles) and manage the associated budget if delegated.
  • Evaluate variation order claims from suppliers and contractors, approve or request approval to the Project Manager, and support follow‑up of variation orders or other claims towards the SPV.
  • Continuously evaluate project KPI’s to ensure positive performance and identify early risks related to schedule and budget overruns.
  • Manage risks and opportunities proactively with mitigations and monitoring.
  • Follow guidelines and prescribed structures as outlined by the operating system and secure successful implementation during structuring and execution of the projects.
  • Provide continuous input toward improvement and optimization of the operating system.
  • Manage phase close‑out at the site, contractor demobilization, onboarding of the O&M team, and handover of activities.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical / Electronical, Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in construction or technical project management.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and project reporting.
  • Experience with utility‑scale PV / wind project execution under project finance structures.
  • Project Management Certificate (ideal).
  • 3+ years of renewable energy experience; lender technical due diligence; owner's engineer workstreams.
  • Exposure to high‑voltage networks and sub‑stations.
  • Based in Cape Town and able to travel to site frequently.

Additional role expectations
  • Advanced understanding of basic electrical design and operation of LV/HV and DC/AC systems, distribution and transmission networks, and the physical aspects of renewable energy systems (solar, wind).
  • Knowledge of planning, commissioning, testing, and grid‑code compliance.
  • Expert understanding of all relevant contracts (EPC, FIM, O&M, grid connection, PPA, etc.) and ensure compliance with all contractual requirements.
  • Ability to understand and mitigate risk to project programme, quality and cost, relative to the project baseline and Scatec's minimum requirements.
  • Effective communication with other departments, external parties such as suppliers, contractors, lenders, and O&M, building trust and confidence in our abilities.
