The Production Officer is responsible for overseeing various aspects of the production process, including crop census, agronomy sample management, crop protection, fertigation, pollination, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The role ensures accurate record-keeping, adherence to quality standards, and seamless coordination with relevant teams.
Key Performance Outputs
Crop Management
- Support the Production Manager with crop census activities, including block counts and summaries.
- Ensure monthly agronomy, drip & drain, and SOP samples are collected and accurately recorded.
- Maintain crop protection and spray records.
- Prepare mixing programs and fertigation checklists, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
Compliance
- Maintain and file quarterly and annual QMS system updates.
- Coordinate and manage all GlobalG.A.P and SIZA compliance records, including audits, certifications, food safety (HACCP), H&S, MSDS, environmental and worker welfare documentation.
- Ensure compliance with waste, pollution, housing, and environmental policies.
- Update compliance systems in line with regulatory and operational changes.
- Support employees with safety and compliance queries and facilitate risk assessments and meetings.
Water & Equipment Maintenance
- Monitor borehole water meter readings and update SIZA KPIs.
- Ensure equipment and housing maintenance records, checklists, and job cards are up to date.
General Operations
- Maintain accurate weather and rainfall records.
- Manage PPE ordering, stock control, and documentation.
- Ensure all signage and notice boards meet compliance standards.
- Support Production with QC, protocols, and daily operational data management.
Cold Room Responsibilities (If applicable either in supervisory or assistance capacity)
- Supervise fruit quality, logistics, and harvesting protocols.
- Maintain accurate cold-room, stock, dispatch, and packhouse records.
- Implement FIFO inventory control.
- Ensure health, safety, and compliance standards are upheld.
- Monitor raw stock and pallet build-up on Netsuite.
- Coordinate cold-room maintenance and protective clothing laundry.
Pollination & Bee Management (if applicable)
- Maintain flower count records for pollination tracking.
- Manage bee stand maps and hive placement.
- Track and document bee hive movements.
Requirements
Qualifications / Experience
- Senior certificate / grade 12 / matric.
- Relevant Business Administration, Food Science or Food Safety diploma or degree
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in agricultural productions or compliance.
Technical
- Working knowledge of GlobalG.A.P and SIZA requirements.
- Understanding of Basic Conditions of Employment and Occupational Health & Safety.
- Experience or knowledge of fertigation, crop protection, pollination, and agronomy sampling will be an advantage.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong planning, organisation, and record-keeping ability.
- Able to work well with teams and maintain good working relationships.
- Detail‑orientated, accurate, and results focused.
