Job Description

This role reports into the Product and Services Department

This role is responsible for executing activities within the De Beers Upstream Technologies Manufacturing function by applying technical expertise, project planning, and project management capabilities throughout the manufacture of Upstream Technology products. The incumbent will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including technical buyers, the product testing department, and the R& team as well as external manufacturers. The role further involves overseeing product assembly teams, managing product cost and quality, and ensuring adherence to agreed delivery schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, source, and schedule manufacturing projects to ensure parts are available on time to smoothen the production process.
  • Apply project management principles to manage manufacturing costs, schedule and quality of finished products and parts.
  • Provide advice on the necessary improvements to the manufacturing process.
  • Continuously investigate and propose initiatives to reduce product input costs, product quality and shorter overall product supply lead times.
  • Compile and communicate manufacturing progress reports to various internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in updating and developing new work procedures related to the production environment.
  • Must be willing to be trained in crane and forklift operations.
Qualifications

Formal qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Technology Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.

Additional requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment or any other fast paced production environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Adaptable and flexible to changes in work priorities
  • Knowledge and use of SAP system will be advantageous

Role specific knowledge:

  • Understanding and interpretation of mechanical drawings.
  • Basic mechanical design skills.
  • Applied understanding of the application of tools and equipment used in the manufacturing process.
  • Communication and People management skills
