Purpose of the Team

The CAST Leadership Team (CLT) holds the strategic oversight and overall responsibility for the work of CAST (The Church Alliance for Social Transformation).

This team is comprised of various roles, each with role‑specific responsibilities and shared duties, ultimately guiding CAST's strategic direction and ensuring all work aligns with the vision of peace and justice God's work in the world.

Key Purpose of the Job

The core purpose of this role is to contribute to the leadership and direction of CAST.

The Operations and Project Lead will oversee head office management, budget, finances, and operations of CAST, ensuring that partner projects align with sustainable development principles and advance CAST's vision.

This person will work closely with CAST Trustees & Board of Directors and CAST staff to implement strategy and report on results.

Duties and Responsibilities

Effective implementation and oversight of strategy towards organisational vision and mission.

Guide and implement the Organisational Vision, Objectives and Values with the CLT.

Continue and develop strategic projects toward achieving the organisational vision.

Ensure overall alignment with CAST's strategic direction.

Implement overarching goals and initiatives.

Establish a culture that prioritises extending God's Kingdom of Shalom and Justice within and through the organisation.

Oversight, management and delivery of CAST Strategic Functions. Manage and deliver responsibility for four of the eight strategic functions: Projects, Fundraising, Volunteers & Partners, and Disasters.

Projects Strategic Function – oversee how CAST accompanies churches in developing projects and develop expertise as expert generalists advising on sustainable development projects.

Fundraising Strategic Function – develop and implement CAST's fundraising strategy, identify new donor relationships, plan fundraising events, and write proposals.

Volunteers and Partners Strategic Function – develop and implement the volunteers and partners strategy, aligning with fundraising objectives.

Disasters Strategic Function – develop and implement CAST's disaster response strategy using the eThekwini RESPOND framework.

Lead the identified strategic functions and coordinate with staff working within each function.

Manage staff in the strategic functions.

Develop and roll out identified work packages.

Effective management of operations and finances. Ensure CAST is run legally and transparently.

Provide strong financial leadership to achieve financial goals.

Oversee the budget.

Develop and oversee a culture and policy environment that extends the shalom of the Kingdom within the organisation.

Provide accurate feedback to the Board of Directors and Trustees.

Manage the CAST operations team (Ops Manager, Finance Manager and Admin Support Officer) and CAST head office.

Leadership and development of CAST Team

Focus on the operations team and the broader organisation.

Equip and motivate staff.

Place staff based on organisational needs and their skills and passions.

Recruit staff and address HR issues.

Set up and maintain policies and procedures that support the organisation's vision.

Coach employees effectively.

Living CAST's values

Commit to adherence of the statement of belief and values.

Provide a pastoral role to guide and steer CAST business operations within Christian guidelines and parameters in adherence to the CAST Statement of Belief and values.

Experience (Min)

5 – 10 years in a relevant management position.

Experience (Preferred)
  • years in a relevant management position plus relevant experience with NGOs / NPOs.
Technical Skills
