Occupational Therapist Programme Manager

Overview

A new position has opened for an Occupational Therapist to join the U-turn team in Johannesburg, Linden, leading the programmes at the new Homeless Support centre. This is a full-time onsite role, initially offered as a one-year contract.

Summary

The Occupational Therapist will head the group programmes (activity and recovery groups) and conduct individual assessments, treatment and referrals to appropriate services. They will work alongside a Centre Manager and service delivery staff to maintain a holistic, therapeutic environment. After progression through the first two phases of the U-turn intervention model, clients may be referred to the U-turn Work-readiness programme for secondary and tertiary interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Run daily activity groups with clients who are still living on the street and may be in active addiction
  • Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments with regular attendees ready to commit to the programme
  • Case-manage enrolled clients, ensuring accountability to programme goals and facilitating access to necessary services
  • Oversee the voucher earning programme with meaningful, gradable tasks
  • Train staff to run the Voucher Earning programme effectively
  • Run Recovery skills groups and complete bio-psychosocial assessments for clients joining the recovery programme; case-manage their journey and link to appropriate services
  • Work-readiness: supervise peer-interns’ work-practice and train them on group facilitation and understanding of addiction
  • Create referral networks for accommodation, medical and mental health treatment
  • Contribute to planning and record-keeping systems to ensure continuous improvement
  • Oversee change-readiness and Rehab Support programmes at the centre

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with up-to-date HPCSA registration; experience in addiction field and harm-reduction principles
  • Competent in group facilitation
  • Competent in bio-psychosocial assessments and developing intervention plans based on client needs
  • Driver's license
