Overview

The Logistics Manager: Road will be responsible for managing inbound and outbound road logistics operations to ensure cost-effective, efficient, and compliant delivery of finished goods to customers across South Africa and SADC. This role supports the Senior Manager: Logistics by executing the road transport strategy, managing transporter relationships, and ensuring alignment with Omnia’s logistics governance, sustainability, and customer service objectives. To oversee, inventory control, material handling, customer service, transportation Strategies and coach teams across function. All activities, roles and responsibilities are aligned to the world class (manufacturing) philosophy, principles and practices.

Qualifications
  • Matric (Maths and Science)

Experience
  • 6–10 years in logistics with at least 3 years in road transport management.
  • Experience managing transporter contracts and compliance.
  • Previous OHSA 16.2 appointment advantageous.
Duties

Strategy:

  • Implement the road logistics component of the group-wide Logistics Strategy
  • Ensure KPIs for inbound and outbound transport align with Omnia’s strategic objectives (cost, OTIF, sustainability)

Oversee Logistics team to cost-effective logistics:

  • Manage day-to-day inbound and outbound transport scheduling and execution for all finished goods
  • Ensure best total logistics cost and OTIF delivery performance
  • Monitor and report on transporter performance against SLA and compliance requirements
  • Implement best-in-class processes for demand management and route optimization

Transporter SLA's and Contracts:

  • Liaise with transporters
  • Sourcing of more cost-effective transporters with the Procurement manager
  • Manage contracts and SLA's

Legal appointment:

  • Legal appointment OHSA 16.2
  • Ensure risks managed effectively
  • Ensure business processes and procedures followed

Effective resource management:

  • Ensure HR recruitment process is being followed
  • Provide competency guidelines on key positions
  • Review candidate CVs and interview

Governance & Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to Omnia’s logistics policies, SHERQ standards, and OHSA 16.2 requirements
  • Track and mitigate operational risks in line with business risk assessment
  • Maintain auditable records for cost savings and compliance

Develop masterplan implementation and tracking of best practices:

  • Setup masterplan and share in steering committee for overall Logistics team

Liaises with supporting services, plants and procurement:

  • Ensure alignment between the procurement, planning and production plan
  • Ensure the accurate and available Transport

LMC:

  • Champion change
  • Monitor and control change and risks arising
  • Remove obstacles or bottlenecks to ensure employees focussed / perform function (e.g. tool, systems, etc.)

People Leadership:

  • Lead and coach the logistics team to deliver operational excellence
  • Drive continuous improvement and capability development within the team
  • Performance management and creating and reviewing KPIs
  • Lead the ER and IR interventions and actions
  • Coaching and Mentoring of good practice
  • Rewarding excellent performance
  • Reporting to Senior Logistics Manager on business objectives
  • Support subordinates with completion of IDP/EDD with all Logistics and Customer Service heads
