A legal consulting firm seeks a Legal Advisor to provide legal advisory services and support for regulatory and commercial issues. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor of Law Degree, is an admitted attorney, and has at least 3 years of post-admission experience. Proficiency in Afrikaans and English is required. This role requires excellent administrative skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in high-pressure environments.

SUMMARY

Legal Advisor – High Court Admitted Attorney – Commercial / Property - Bedfordview

POSITION INFO

Overview Of Role: Providing support to the head of the legal department, providing legal advisory services and support to the Group to ensure that regulatory, commercial and other legal risks are assessed, mitigated and / or avoided. The ideal candidate must have excellent administrative and organisational skills, ensure high quality outcomes by following processes and paying attention to detail, have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a high-pressure, fast paced environment.

Role And Responsibilities
  • Drafting and editing written material upon the instructions of the head of legal
  • Receive and review various agreements from the head of legal for scrutiny in terms of quality control and compliance with internal procedures
  • Assist and support the head of legal and Group stakeholders
  • Drafting of various types of agreements, including lease agreements and addendums thereto
  • Drafting of legal letters
  • Research and drafting of opinions on company matters
  • Review of various types of agreements (NDA, Credit Applications, Service Level Agreements, Terms and Conditions, etc.)
  • Staying abreast of legislative developments on various aspects and communicate the impact thereof to the Group including FICA, AML etc.
  • Assist with contract management
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion while handling sensitive information to protect the Group and its stakeholders
  • Conduct legal research
  • Interfacing with various stakeholders across business divisions about contractual issues upon the instructions of the head of legal
  • Assist in maintaining litigation files, including pleadings, case law, memorandums, discovery documents
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors of Law Degree (LLB | BCom)
  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court
  • Minimum 3 (Three) years’ post admission qualification (preferably in property development or property management company and / or commercial legal experience)
  • Proficient in Afrikaans & English (advanced)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Skills Required
  • Understanding the standard principles associated with debt recovery
  • Good grasp on civil litigation procedures
  • Exposure to the Insolvency Act, Companies Act, Competition Act, Compliance laws
  • Negotiating terms of commercial agreements
  • Representation, under the supervision of the head of legal, with external role players
  • Ability to attend to multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and proofreading
  • Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to unexpected changes, priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in conduct, appearance and communication
