Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Investment Principal to join our dynamic and innovative Socio‑Economic Development Unit (SEDU).

As an Investment Principal, you will play a crucial role in driving the success of our organization through your expertise in fund / capital raising, financial planning and analysis, and stakeholder management.

We are looking for a passionate and results‑oriented individual who can thrive in a fast‑paced environment and contribute to the growth and development of our company.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and execute strategies for raising funds from various sources, including banks, donor funders, private equity firms, venture capitalists, government grants, and other sources.
  • Identify and tap into potential funding sources, maintaining a robust pipeline of funding opportunities.
  • Develop and present compelling funding proposals tailored to the interests and requirements of potential funders.
  • Craft and manage detailed financial models to evaluate various funding scenarios and support negotiation processes.
  • Identify and respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs) on Enterprise Supplier Development (ESD) and Third‑Party Funders.
  • Draft each partner’s performance update reports and close‑out reports.
  • Effectively address queries from funders and negotiate terms and conditions that are in line with the organization’s mandate, objectives, and capacity.
  • Work closely with the legal department in drafting and monitoring partnership agreements and performance.
  • Provide progress and performance updates to all relevant committees, including the Board and sub‑Board committee(s).
  • Stay abreast of market trends, both locally and internationally, funding sources, and emerging financial opportunities to optimize fundraising approaches.
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations to potential funders, effectively articulating the organization’s financial needs and growth plans.
  • Lead negotiations to finalize funding agreements, ensuring terms and conditions are mutually beneficial and aligned with the organization’s mandate and objectives.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with capital providers to ensure ongoing and positive engagement.
  • Regularly communicate with funders, providing updates on the organization’s performance and the utilization of funds in a transparent and reliable manner.
  • Manage and lead a team of professionals.
  • Ensure the effective governance, structuring, and portfolio management of the funds under the organization’s management.
  • Collaborate with government departments on the identification and implementation of programs, incentives, and financing schemes.
  • Build influential relationships and networks with internal and external key stakeholders to position the organization as the partner of choice for third‑party funds.
  • Assist in the preparation of the organization’s annual B‑BBEE rating, including providing an internal score.
  • Advise internal B‑BBEE elements custodians on compliance queries and assist with policy formulation and implementation.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate degrees such as a Master’s or certifications like CFA would be advantageous.
  • A proven track record of successful fundraising and deal closures, with at least 5 years of experience in corporate finance, investment banking, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and risk analysis.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft persuasive funding proposals and deliver impactful presentations.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a keen understanding of legal and contractual aspects related to fundraising and deal structuring.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including capital providers and internal teams.
  • Experience in managing funding partnerships and leading teams.
  • Grounded experience on development issues.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to engage effectively with senior officials of banks, corporates, and governments.
  • Experience working in a high‑level collaborative and culturally diverse environment.
  • Extremely organized and persistent, with the drive and determination to achieve goals.
  • Extensive experience in B‑BBEE verification / rating services and knowledge of the BEE Act, Codes of Good Practice, sector charters, and PPPFA.
