Overview

In-Store Agent | M-KOPA South Africa (Gauteng & Western Cape)

Frontline sales with purpose—connecting customers to their first smartphone and financial freedom.

You’re great with people. You know how to sell. You've built trust at the counter and delivered results on the floor. But when was the last time your work helped someone access their first smartphone—and unlock their financial future?

We are looking for In-Store Agents to join our Retail Sales team in Gauteng and Western Cape as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

Why This Timing Matters

M-KOPA is expanding rapidly. We’ve grown from 5 million to 7 million customers in just over a year, unlocking $2+ billion in credit, assembling 2 million smartphones in Kenya, and financing 4,+ e-motorbikes that save riders $5.62 daily. We’re building the infrastructure to reach 10 million customers, and our in‑store experience is a critical part of that journey. This is your opportunity to join during a high‑growth phase—where your customer service and sales skills will directly impact how South Africans access essential technology and financial services.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn’t just retail. It’s frontline financial inclusion. You’ll be the face of M‑KOPA inside one of our retail partner stores—educating customers, selling financed smartphones and SIM cards, and helping people take their first step into the digital economy. You’ll manage stock, support field teams, and build strong relationships with store staff and customers alike. Your work will help customers access affordable smartphones, data packages, and flexible payment options—many for the very first time.

Your Impact
  • Sales & Customer Engagement: Sell financed phones, cash phones, and SIM cards. Greet customers warmly, explain product features and financing options, and help them choose the right solution.
  • Customer Support & Service: Assist with RICA registration, payments, and after‑sales support. Handle queries and complaints professionally, ensuring every customer leaves satisfied.
  • Brand Representation: Maintain a clean, organised counter and display area. Uphold M‑KOPA's brand standards and retail partner store rules at all times.
  • Stock Management: Track and count stock daily. Receive deliveries, support field reps collecting or returning stock, and report discrepancies. Complete daily paperwork and assist with monthly stock takes.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate regularly with your Field Sales Manager and Channel Operations Manager. Share updates, flag issues, and contribute to a high‑performing retail team.
Must‑Have Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience in retail or sales, ideally in mobile or consumer electronics.
  • Proven ability to sell consultatively, handle objections, and close deals in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in stock handling and reporting.
Compensation

This role offers a base salary plus commission, rewarding both consistency and performance. If you’re driven by targets and motivated by impact, this is a chance to earn while enabling access.

The Reality Check

This role is customer‑facing, target‑driven, and operationally demanding. You’ll be on your feet, managing stock, handling queries, and hitting sales goals—all while representing M‑KOPA with pride.

You’ll thrive in high‑energy environments and know how to turn customer interactions into meaningful outcomes.
