Job summary

A leading food company in Mbombela is searching for an HR Officer to provide comprehensive HR support across various sites. This role entails managing recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring compliance with South African labour laws, and fostering positive employee relations. The ideal candidate will hold a degree or diploma in HR with at least 4 years of relevant experience. This full-time position offers a competitive salary package ranging from R240,000 to R300,000 annually.

Introduction

The HR Officer provides comprehensive day‑to‑day HR support to managers and employees across all sites. This role ensures compliance with labour legislation, drives recruitment and onboarding processes, supports performance and talent management, and coordinates skills development initiatives. The HR Officer acts as a key link between the HR team and the business fostering positive employee relations and promoting a values‑driven high‑performance culture. Duties & Responsibilities

1. HR Compliance

Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, SDA) and internal HR policies.

Support Ethical Trade Compliance audits.

Uphold and promote adherence to company HR policies and procedures.

2. Recruitment and Onboarding

Manage the full recruitment lifecycle across multiple functions.

Conduct onboarding and orientation programmes to ensure smooth new hire integration.

3. Performance Management

Facilitate goal setting, mid‑year and year‑end performance reviews.

Guide employees through self‑assessment and development discussions.

Monitor completion rates and escalates non‑compliance where necessary.

4. Talent Management

Support the implementation of talent and succession planning processes.

Partner with leadership to ensure Individual Development Plans are in place for key talent.

5. Employee Relations

Promote positive labour relations across sites.

Provide sound ER advice and support to line management.

Represent the company at the CCMA where required.

Build and maintain constructive relationships with unions and / or workplace committees.

6. Attendance & Time Management

Monitor and maintain daily Jarrison timekeeping records for staff.

Verify payroll hours, manage absenteeism tracking and issue attendance‑related warnings.

7. Payroll Support & HR Administration

Cross‑check payroll inputs for accuracy and assist in resolving discrepancies.

Maintain updated leave registers, recruitment trackers and training logs.

Ensure compliance and proper filing of employee and policy documentation.

8. Skills Development

Implement and monitor the Annual Training Plan and Discretionary Grants.

Coordinate learnerships, bursaries, internships and skills programmes.

Organise and run Skills Development Committee meetings.

9. HR Projects and Reporting

Execute HR improvement projects to embed best practices.

Ensure accurate HR administration and payroll input.

Maintain HR dashboards and provide routine HR reports.

10. Culture Engagement and Employee Wellness

Act as a culture ambassador to drive trust, recognition and engagement.

Monitor employee sentiment and support initiatives that enhance cultural alignment.

Lead wellness initiatives in partnership with internal stakeholders.

Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Grade 12 and a relevant HR tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma).
  • Minimum 4 years of generalist HR experience with strong exposure to Skills Development and Recruitment.
  • Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, SDA).
  • Experience representing a company at the CCMA is advantageous.
  • FMCG wholesale or retail industry experience preferred.
  • Strong HR systems knowledge and excellent communication skills.
  • People‑focused, organised and self‑driven with strong relationship‑building ability.
  • Professional, reliable and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Willing to travel between sites in White River (valid driver’s licence and own transport required).
