Job description

As Head of Service – Africa at DHYBRID, you will establish and lead our regional service organisation, ensuring the reliable operation of hybrid renewable and battery storage systems across the continent.

You will manage on-site interventions, preventive maintenance, spare parts logistics, and customer relationships – setting the foundation for long‑term system performance and client satisfaction.

We're looking for a technically strong and hands‑on leader who combines deep electrical or control‑system expertise with organisational and commercial awareness.

Your Responsibilities
  • Build and lead DHYBRID’s regional Service Department in Johannesburg.
  • Plan and coordinate on‑site interventions across Sub‑Saharan Africa.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of PV‑BESS hybrid systems, including the EMS according to DHYBRID’s service standards.
  • Supervise commissioning assistance, troubleshooting, and warranty interventions in close coordination with the global engineering and project teams.
  • Manage and develop a local network of qualified service partners and technicians.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for existing customers in the region (Customer Support & Relationship Management).
  • Oversee service‑level agreements (SLA) and ensure contractual KPIs are met.
  • Support spare parts supply, cost approvals, and quotation handling.
  • Coordinate remote support and escalates critical issues to central support teams in Germany.
  • Implement DHYBRID’s global service workflows, documentation, and ticketing systems (Process & Quality).
  • Track service metrics, incident reports, and response times; propose process improvements.
  • Conduct site audits and provide training to customer O&M teams.
  • Ensure all works comply with HSE standards and local regulations.
  • Build a small but highly capable local team of service engineers and field technicians (Team & Growth).
  • Coach and train team members, ensuring strong technical and safety competence.
  • Collaborate closely with DHYBRID’s global Service and Engineering divisions to continuously improve after‑sales support and customer satisfaction.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Renewable Energy Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in service, commissioning, or O&M of PV, hybrid, or energy storage systems.
  • Proven experience leading field teams and coordinating multi‑site service activities.
  • Solid understanding of power electronics (PCS, inverters, transformers), SCADA / EMS systems, and industrial control hardware (PLC, network components).
  • Strong troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent English communication (written and spoken); German or French is an advantage.
  • Based in Johannesburg, with willingness to travel across Africa (up to 40%).
  • Valid driver's licence and right to work in South Africa.
Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Experience in hybrid power for mining, island grids, or industrial C&I sites.
  • Familiarity with DHYBRID Universal Power Platform (UPP) or comparable EMS / SCADA solutions.
  • Basic commercial understanding of SLAs, warranty claims, and service cost structures.
  • Background in commissioning leadership or technical service management in an international environment.
