Job Description

Masifundise seeks to appoint a full-time, self-motivated, independent, and numerically accurate Finance Officer to join our Finance Team. The successful candidate will work closely with, and report directly to, the Finance Manager.

The position will be located in Cape Town, South Africa and South African Labour Laws will apply.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support the Finance Manager with the development of the annual organisational plans and budgets.
  • Prepare budgets, monitor spending and exercise budgetary control over operational and programme budgets.
  • Implement budget revisions as instructed by the FM.
  • Identify and alert the FM to anticipated variances in line items in excess of 10% of the approved operational and programme budgets.
  • Prepare other project budgets as indicated by the FM.
  • To prepare, code and capture all transactions and all journal entries.
  • To process all local and international payments.
  • Capture and verify payments.
  • Collect and file all payment requisitions and supporting documents.
  • Ensure that Proof of Payments are sent to service providers.
  • Prepare and submit to SARS, the Department of Labor and Social development.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports to donors, the Board of Trustees and Management.
  • Assist with ensuring that salaries payments and basic deductions are accurate.
  • Assist to prepare specific projects and annual organization audit.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Financial Manager.
  • Work as a member of the Finance team, as requested, in consultation with the Financial Manager.
Qualifications And Requirements
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent.
  • At least 3-5 years working experience as a Finance Officer, preferably in an NGO environment.
  • Proficient in Sage Pastel Partner Accounting and Sage Pastel Payroll.
  • Ability to use basic MS Word functions.
  • Ability to use intermediate MS Excel functions (creating spread sheets and using financial functions).
  • A good working knowledge of MS Outlook.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Sound problem-solving abilities: anticipate problems, effectively identify cause, and determine the correct solution.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and spot numerical errors.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the organisation’s culture of teamwork, mutual support, and continuous learning.
