Job summary

Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Energy Storage Specialist to join a leading team delivering large-scale renewable energy projects across South Africa and the wider African region. This role will focus on the technical development, compliance, and execution of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) integrated with photovoltaic (PV) plants.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the development and localisation of technical solutions for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Ensure all BESS designs meet Eskom and municipal grid code requirements
• Coordinate technical interfaces between energy storage systems, PV plants, and electrical systems
• Manage technical compliance, grid connections, dispatch coordination, and performance testing
• Act as the technical representative in communications with consultants, clients, and regulatory authorities
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting throughout project execution and commissioning

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in energy storage systems or renewable energy projects
• Strong knowledge of South African grid structures, interconnection standards, and compliance requirements
• Familiarity with Eskom, NERSA, and municipal technical standards
• Fluent in English with excellent technical communication and coordination skills
• South African or industry-recognised engineering certification
• Capable of taking a technical lead role and supporting local skills development

Preferred:

• Experience in PV + storage projects in South Africa or Africa
• Experience in IPP or utility-scale renewable energy projects
• Valid South African work permit
• Master’s degree or higher
