Job Description

The Principal Auditor for Responsible Sourcing/Ethical Trade/Social Compliance collaborates with audit teams to plan, prioritize, and perform audit activities, including report preparation, to ensure technical excellence. They are experienced Lead Auditors with in-depth knowledge of market issues and typically master different schemes. They liaise with Program Managers and support local implementation and improvements.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate initiative, effective workload planning, project management experience (desirable), leadership, excellent communication skills (training), and experience related to the product or similar activities. Educational requirements include a degree, recognized auditor training (APSCA), and approval as a second-party auditor or equivalent training. A minimum of two years’ experience in supply chain activities, team management/leadership (desirable), and fluency in English and Afrikaans are required.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  1. Perform all duties in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity.
  2. Act as sole or lead auditor on selected schemes.
  3. Ensure effective delivery of audits in line with global procedures and scheme/client requirements.
  4. Meet turnaround times for reports and deliverables.
  5. Maintain professionalism in client and auditee interactions.
  6. Promote SGS services through seminars, presentations, and articles.
  7. Provide technical support to back office and sales teams.
  8. Review reports from other auditors.
  9. Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including NGOs and industry bodies, and stay updated on industry trends.
  10. Ensure compliance with SGS’s Code of Integrity & Professional Conduct and Impartiality Policy.
  11. Participate in investigations related to quality or integrity issues.
  12. Practice safe behaviors, exercising due regard for health and safety policies.
  13. Witness other auditors to ensure auditing competence.
  14. Lead and organize audit teams before, during, and after audits.
  15. Mentor auditors and provide on-the-job training.
  16. Coordinate with Program Managers for program implementation and share updates with country managers and technical leads.
  17. Identify areas for quality, integrity, and efficiency improvements.
  18. Assist in developing and revising audit policies and procedures.
  19. Address complex issues through escalation and analysis.
  20. Contribute to technical documentation.
Qualifications
  • Must be registered with APSCA and in the process of completing the three APSCA exams; proof required.
  • Social Auditor Training.
  • Willing to travel locally and internationally; a valid passport is required.
  • Knowledge of labor laws, occupational health and safety, and environmental standards.
  • Own transport and a current driver’s license.
