Job summary

A leading recruitment agency in South Africa seeks a Chief Health & Safety Officer. This role involves ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in open cast mining operations. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of health and safety experience in mining, hold relevant certifications, and provide support and guidance on safety matters. This position offers a competitive salary package of R30,000 to R40,000 CTC based on experience.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in mining health & safety, specifically in open cast mining.
  • In-depth knowledge of Mine Health and Safety legislation.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and site safety procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and safety audits.
  • Investigate incidents and compile detailed reports.
  • Maintain statutory safety records and documentation.
  • Liaise with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
  • Provide guidance on health and safety matters.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of safety standards.

Chief Health & Safety Officer (Mining – Open Cast) Danté Personnel Recruitment•Benoni

SA - Gauteng, Benoni R30 000 CTC - R40 000 CTC (Based on experience). We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Chief Health & Safety Officer to lead and enforce Mine Health and Safety compliance across open cast mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure full adherence to MHSA requirements, drive a strong safety culture, and act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all site safety procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near‑misses and compile detailed reports
  • Maintain all statutory safety records and documentation
  • Liaise with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE)
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support on health and safety matters across site operations
  • Ensure continuous improvement of safety standards and systems
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • SAMTRAC / COMSOC / NEBOSH certification (essential)
  • SACPCMP registration (or eligible/registrable)
  • Minimum 5 years’ mining health & safety experience, with open cast mining essential
  • In‑depth knowledge of Mine Health and Safety legislation
  • Valid driver’s licence
