Position: Chief Engineer – Electronics / Firmware

Location: Gauteng, Tshwane

Type: Permanent / Full-time

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Engineer to lead technical excellence in Electronics and Firmware within the defence and aerospace sectors.

This senior role is ideal for an accomplished engineer with deep expertise in embedded systems or RF electronics, a passion for innovation, and a proven track record of leadership in complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the design authority in Electronics / Firmware, leading complex system designs and ensuring technical excellence.
  • Guide, review, and approve design activities to ensure compliance, manufacturability, and performance integrity.
  • Provide technical mentorship and develop engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Support opportunity evaluation, feasibility studies, and bid development.
  • Collaborate with other senior engineers and executive leadership to align technical strategy with organisational objectives.
  • Drive research, process improvement, and intellectual property generation.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, specialising in RF Electronics or Firmware.
  • 10+ years' experience in relevant engineering disciplines with proven technical leadership.
  • Recognised subject matter expert in your field (e.g., embedded systems, firmware development, electromagnetic simulation, or structural mechanics).
  • Strong familiarity with defence and aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD, STANAG, IEC, ISO).
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
Advantageous
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, FEKO, HFSS, CST, or similar simulation/analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated track record in innovation and intellectual property development.
