Qualifications

Job Title: Anti-Poaching Tactical Response Officer

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and well-trained Anti-Poaching Unit Member to join our tactical response team on a prestigious Big 5 reserve. The ideal candidate will be passionate about wildlife protection and demonstrate discipline, vigilance, and teamwork in protecting the reserve’s natural assets from illegal activity and poaching threats.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular fence patrols and ensure perimeter integrity.
  • Respond promptly to fence alarms and rhino monitoring system alerts.
  • Provide tactical response and backup to anti-poaching and security incidents.
  • Perform escort duties for staff, visitors, or valuable assets when required.
  • Participate in intelligence gathering, observation, and reporting of suspicious activity.
  • Maintain accurate patrol and incident logs.
  • Ensure equipment, vehicles, and firearms are maintained in excellent operational condition.
  • Work collaboratively with the reserve management and law enforcement teams.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an anti-poaching or tactical security environment.
  • Recognized Anti-Poaching Training Certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license (manual).
  • Firearm competency for Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) or Handgun – preferably both.
  • Valid PSIRA registration (minimum Grade C).
  • Physically fit, disciplined, and mentally resilient.
  • Able to work in remote conditions and follow chain-of-command procedures.
  • Must be willing to work rotational shifts , weekends, and public holidays.
  • Additional field ranger or conservation training.
  • Experience in Big 5 game reserves work experience.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Integrity, alertness, and situational awareness.
