Job description

The Senior/Research Fellow provides evidence for the hypothesis, performs experiments and data analysis for research projects. He/She will collaborate and assist Principal Investigator(s) as well as external stakeholders, in their research projects and provide necessary assistance within the Team / Department as well as external stakeholders in the operation and maintenance of research equipment and infrastructure.

He/She must be detail-oriented, organised, independent and capable of balancing workload by prioritising tasks and requests according to the project goals and deadlines in a timely manner. He/She will guide and mentor junior staff, and other researchers within and outside of the team. He/She is to provide regular progress update as well as to handle other ad‑hoc duties as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.

The Senior/Research Fellow is expected to work closely with the supervisor to drive the process of research projects including project design, execution and completion and ensure the operationality of the research/laboratory team.

Scientific knowledge and abilities
  • Mentoring students, research coordinators and research officers. Has outstanding analytical abilities.
  • Asks the pertinent questions and designs projects that challenge traditional thinking in general and progress research themes.
  • Makes imaginative leaps of understanding across disciplines/research areas/agendas and beyond academia.
Research skills
  • Creates new models and hypotheses, research designs, data collection and analysis techniques; and applying in inter‑disciplinary settings.
  • Educates, advises and guides others in information seeking, evaluation, analysis and interpretation, as appropriate.
  • Uses a range of appropriate resources for literature search and proficiently manage bibliometrics and citations.
  • To take up challenging projects that meets the goals of the PI and department.
Safety Research Ethics
  • Educates, trains and guides the team in health and safety and, chemical and biological safety compliances.
  • Manages and takes responsibility for research and ethics compliance within the department and project teams.
  • Directs local policy, advises all staff and contributes to institutional policy.
  • Ensure good working condition of assigned equipment.
  • Train end‑users on basic operation and use of research equipment.
Leadership/ Management
  • Able to analyse unexpected outcomes and demonstrates flexibility to change processes.
  • Is influential in setting standards and devising criteria to define the skills required of researchers.
  • Actively acquires information and feedback on matters affecting the direction of research area and on colleagues and researchers in relation to their professional development.
  • Proactively build relationships in own team and different parts of the organisation and effectively uses contacts to achieve results.
Education, training & development
  • Facilitates continuing professional development including assessing performance and planning a series of effective learning experiences.
  • Develops staff and facilitates relationships.
Other job functions

Supervises and takes responsibility for projects and activities which support the goals of the PI’s lab and department.

Quality improvement

Participate in quality improvement activities.

Requirement - Education, Training and Experience

PhD in Life Science, Health Services Research, Psychology/Neuropsychology, Behavioural Science.

At least 2 years post‑doc experience for Research Fellow and 7 years post‑doc experience for Senior Research Fellow post.

Proficient in use of standard statistical or qualitative software e.g. STATA, SPSS.

Good scientific writing skills as demonstrated by track records of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
