Job description

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) is a research centre conducting fundamental and applied research in all aspects related to additive manufacturing. Our vision is to be the world leader in 3D Printing and a wellspring of knowledge, delivering state of the art and innovative solutions to the industry. SC3DP is at the forefront of developing advanced technologies and high-impact research in areas such biomedical, construction, aerospace, marine and offshore. It is one of the very few research centres globally with multi-sector 3D printing expertise. SC3DP’s research achievements, high-level industry collaboration, comprehensive facilities and resources have positioned it as a leading hub for 3D printing research and innovation globally.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team in advancing composite materials for additive manufacturing (AM). The successful candidate will explore and optimize a broad spectrum of functional material formulations including graphene, carbon nanotubes, ceramics, and other advanced fillers to develop sustainable, high-performance feedstocks for 3D printing. This role is central to our efforts to push the boundaries of AM material innovation and supports NTU’s commitment to sustainable and impactful technological development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, synthesise, and characterise composite materials suitable for extrusion-based AM.
  • Formulate and optimise material systems incorporating cellulose, graphene, CNTs, ceramic nanoparticles, and other high-performance additives.
  • Evaluate rheological, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of developed composites.
  • Conduct 3D printing experiments to assess printability, structural fidelity, and functional performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary researchers in materials science, mechanical engineering, and biomanufacturing.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts, presentations, and technical reports.
  • Supervise junior members of the team and contribute to proposal writing where needed.
Requirements:
  • PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields
  • At least 1 year of relevant postdoctoral research experience
  • Strong knowledge on rheology, mechanical testing, or microstructural characterisation (SEM, XRD, Raman, TGA, DSC, etc.) is highly advantageous.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to collaborative, interdisciplinary research.
  • Strong communication skills and a proven track record of scientific publications.
