Responsibilities

You will actively contribute to the underwriting and pricing risk management oversight function supporting Munich Re's Life and Health business units across Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, as required including :

• Internal underwriting reviews
• Case referrals above Business Unit's (BU) mandated authority
• New business quotations above BU mandated authority
• Development, maintenance and support of Munich Re's underwriting manual - MIRA
• AI, data analytics or any other underwriting related initiatives
• Contribute to the Life & Health Propositions Studio's efforts in the development and implementation of new solutions to address client needs, across all markets within scope, from an Underwriting perspective.
• Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key internal stakeholders across all Munich Re Life and Health markets in APAC, Africa and the Middle East.
• Develop guidelines for newly developed concepts, products or features, and conduct review of existing Underwriting & Claims philosophy and guidelines based on research.
• Research, analyse and make recommendations on the effectiveness of new data sources and underwriting techniques. Develop underwriting philosophy and guidelines for non-traditional underwriting variables, working closely with other internal stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of external factors (e.g. medical and technological advances, regulations and industry trends) which may affect Underwriting and Claims practices across all markets
• Perform ad hoc research projects to support proposition development initiatives, as required.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with key clients as required.
• Support all local business units in reinsurance tenders and other key external initiatives from an Underwriting and / or Claims perspective, in a consulting capacity.
• Support internal and / or client-specific projects on Underwriting for all markets within scope.

Your Profile

• At least 10-15 years working experience as an Underwriter with expertise across all lines of business. A strong preference is given to candidates with reinsurance experience and market knowledge of insurance products in Asia.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of Underwriting.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to communicate and present technical insights and impacts to a wide range of audiences, across various organisational levels.
• Strong collaboration skills, with demonstrable experience working with a range of technical experts across multiple functional and geographical areas.
• Strong people skills and an ability to interact with clients. Prior client management experience would be preferential.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with sound judgement, commercial awareness and a desire to find unique and creative solutions to various analytical problems and new or innovative concepts.
• Ability to self-manage work and drive new projects where no established processes currently exist.
