Job description
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Safety
  • Ensure safe operation of barges & vessels in compliance with company policies, flag state, and international regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM).
  • Monitor voyage planning, cargo operations, mooring, towing, and stability.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety management systems (SMS).
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformities; implement corrective actions.
Maintenance & Technical Oversight
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensure hull, ballast systems, cargo systems, and deck equipment are maintained and operational.
  • Coordinate dry‑dockings, repairs, and inspections.
  • Review maintenance reports and defect lists.
Crew Management
  • Supervise barge masters, mates, and deck crews.
  • Ensure crew certification, training, and competency requirements are met.
  • Support performance management and disciplinary actions when required.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with class society, port state, and client requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits and inspections.
  • Maintain vessel documentation and certification validity.
Budget & Planning
  • Assist with budgeting for maintenance, repairs, and operations.
  • Control costs while maintaining safety and reliability.
  • Support fleet planning and asset utilization.
Stakeholder Coordination
  • Liaise with charterers, terminals, shipyards, surveyors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with marine operations, HSQE, and technical departments.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Master Mariner, O.I.M, Marine warranty surveyor or equivalent maritime qualification (preferred).
  • 5–10+ years of experience in barge or offshore marine operations.
  • Strong knowledge of marine regulations and safety management systems.
  • Experience with audits, inspections, and dry‑docking.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Work Environment
  • Combination of office‑based and field work.
  • Frequent travel to vessels, ports, and shipyards.
  • May involve irregular hours and on‑call responsibilities.
