Job Title: Laboratory Technologist (Comparative Medicine)

Job Description

This position is responsible for performing animal care duties, which include a variety of routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care in biomedical research.

  • Perform daily care of animals, including feeding, housing, and related duties required for proper care.
  • Check animals daily and identify clinical and behavioral abnormalities, reporting to veterinary staff.
  • Check the facility or equipment daily to identify and report issues to supervisor.
  • Execute routine cage changing and sanitation.
  • Perform general laboratory animal housekeeping and cleaning duties.
  • Stock supplies.
  • Maintain records.
  • Operate equipment including cage and rack washers and autoclaves.
  • Receive animal shipments.

You will also be expected to assist the veterinary staff when necessary and undertake other duties as assigned. New assignments may also be given and are accompanied by detailed instructions, and completed work is checked for accuracy and compliance with established regulatory standards.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Biotechnology or equivalent discipline preferred, or minimum of GCE ‘O’, ‘N’ levels or Nitec.
  • Good disposition and not averse in handling laboratory animals.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and in team settings.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Outlook and ability to become familiar with additional computing software.
  • Lift up to 15–25 kg.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to push equipment or carts weighing 50–100 kg.
  • Ability to perform rotating weekend duties and after‑office hour duties independently.
  • Valid class 3 driving licence would be an added advantage.
