Job Summary

The Head Coach is responsible for providing overall leadership, direction, and technical oversight of the club’s swimming programme. This role focuses on developing elite and developmental youth athletes through a structured, high-quality Daily Training Environment (DTE), while mentoring coaches and ensuring alignment with long-term athlete development principles. The Head Coach plays a key role in athlete performance, character development, and programme sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership & Athlete Development
  • Lead and oversee the club’s competitive swimming programme across all levels, from developmental to elite youth athletes.
  • Design, implement, and review structured training programmes based on Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.
  • Establish and maintain a high-quality Daily Training Environment (DTE) that supports both performance excellence and holistic development.
  • Apply sports science principles (e.g. training load management, recovery, biomechanics, and performance monitoring) to optimise athlete development.

    Ensure that all training programmes, athlete pathways, and competition plans are

  • aligned with Singapore Aquatics’ overall strategic framework, athlete development pathway, and performance objectives, while adapting them to meet the club’s vision and athlete needs.
Coaching & Technical Oversight
  • Plan and formulate annual, seasonal, and cyclical training plans for all squads within the club.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and supervision to coaches at all levels.

  • Ensure consistency and progression in coaching methodology, training standards, and athlete expectations.

  • Support competition preparation, race strategies, and post-competition reviews.

Coach Development & Management
  • Develop and implement training cycles and frameworks for coaches of different experience levels within the club.

  • Support coach education, professional development, and performance evaluation.

  • Foster a collaborative team culture while encouraging initiative and accountability among coaching staff.

Athlete Welfare, Values & Character Development
  • Promote strong values, discipline, sportsmanship, and character development among student-athletes.

  • Ensure safeguarding, welfare, and duty-of-care standards are upheld at all times.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to support the academic and personal development of student-athletes.

Administration & Stakeholder Communication
  • Demonstrate strong planning, administrative, and organisational skills in managing training schedules, competitions, and programme logistics.

  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, club management, schools, and external stakeholders.

  • Use data analytics and performance tracking tools to inform training decisions and programme improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of competitive coaching experience working with elite and developmental youth athletes.
  • Possess SG-Coach Level 1 (Theory and Technical) or an international swimming coaching qualification recognised by World Aquatics.
  • Eligible to fulfil requirements for National Registry of Coaches (NROC) membership and Ministry of Education (MOE) registration.
  • Strong understanding of sports science applications in elite youth sport, grounded in long-term athlete development principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and sustain a high-quality Daily Training Environment (DTE).
  • Competent in value inculcation and character development for student-athletes.
  • Strong planning, administrative, and organisational skills, with progressive knowledge and positive attitude towards data analytics in training programmes.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while showing initiative and independence in fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to engage student-athletes and stakeholders clearly and professionally.
  • Proven ability to formulate and align training cycles for coaches across different levels within the club.
  • Strong understanding of Singapore Aquatics’ national athlete development pathway and performance framework, with the ability to align club programmes to national standards and long-term objectives.
