Role summary

HitPay is hiring a Finance Team Lead to run a high-integrity finance function and act as a strategic business partner to leadership. You’ll own month-end hygiene, treasury discipline (including merchant funds and settlement flows), approvals and controls, and drive resource planning, budgeting, and forecasting. You’ll also be the primary interface for external auditors, ensure zero late filing fees/penalties, and support Compliance/Risk teams in meeting regulatory obligations. This role needs someone who can execute within constraints, lead a team, and adopt AI/automation to improve throughput and accuracy.

What you’ll own
1) Close, bookkeeping, and reporting excellence
  • Ensure timely and accurate bookkeeping across entities, bank accounts, and payment flows.

  • Lead month-end close: reconciliations, journals, accruals, and variance explanations.

  • Deliver clear, decision-ready reporting for leadership (cash, costs, revenue, key KPIs).

2) Treasury & merchant funds management
  • Own daily/weekly treasury operations: cash positioning, payment runs, bank movements, liquidity planning.

  • Ensure strong governance over merchant funds / settlement flows: reconciliation completeness, exception handling, monitoring delays/breaks.

  • Build dashboards/alerts for breaks, unusual movements, and operational risks.

3) Controls, approvals, and cost optimization
  • Act as a key approver/reviewer for payments, vendor onboarding, and finance workflows.

  • Strengthen internal controls across expenses, procurement, and policy compliance.

  • Identify and execute cost savings and optimization opportunities (vendor negotiations, tooling rationalization, process automation).

4) Resource planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Partner leadership on annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecast cycles.

  • Maintain rolling cashflow forecasts and scenario planning aligned to business priorities.

  • Support resource planning across functions (headcount planning, spend controls, ROI thinking).

5) Audit readiness and external auditor management
  • Maintain strong working relationships with external auditors and ensure smooth audit execution.

  • Own audit preparedness: schedules, evidence, reconciliations, and supporting documents.

  • Fulfil audit requests on time, coordinating cross-functionally to close items quickly.

6) Tax, statutory, and regulatory filings (no penalties)
  • Own all statutory/tax filing calendars across entities and ensure no late filing fees or penalties.

  • Ensure accurate submissions and well-maintained supporting documentation for reviews/audits.

  • Proactively identify filing risks early (data gaps, dependencies) and drive resolution.

7) Support Compliance & Risk on regulatory obligations
  • Partner with Compliance/Risk teams to support regulatory submissions and obligations (e.g., evidence, reporting inputs, reconciliations, controls documentation).

  • Maintain clean audit trails and documentation standards to support internal and external regulatory reviews.

  • Help identify process/control gaps that may create compliance or operational risk and drive fixes.

8) Team leadership and process improvement (including AI automation)
  • Lead and develop the finance team: standards, training, review cadence, and execution quality.

  • Improve processes via SOPs, checklists, documentation, and automation.

  • Get comfortable using AI tools and workflow automation to speed up reconciliations, variance analysis, invoice workflows, and reporting—while maintaining high control standards.

What we’re looking for
Must-haves
  • 5–8 years of finance experience, ideally with Big 4 audit (or equivalent) + operating experience.

  • Strong accounting fundamentals (reconciliations, controls, month-end close) and comfort owning end-to-end finance ops.

  • Proven ability to run budgeting/forecasting and partner leadership on decisions.

  • Experience managing audits and responding to auditors quickly and accurately.

  • Track record of owning statutory/tax filings with zero late penalties.

  • High judgment and discretion: integrity, trust, and confidentiality are non-negotiable.

  • High agency and ownership; can deliver outcomes within constraints.

Nice-to-haves
  • Fintech/payments experience (treasury, settlement flows, merchant funds, regulated environments).

  • Multi-entity / multi-currency experience.

  • Demonstrated process improvement capability, including automation/AI-enabled workflows.

Traits that matter at HitPay
  • Integrity and trust: this role touches approvals, controls, and sensitive financial data.

  • Strategic operator: practical, commercial, and able to influence without overcomplicating.

  • Execution focus: tight timelines, clean reconciliations, and proactive risk flagging.

  • Automation mindset: always looking for leverage via better tools and workflows.

How success looks (first 90–120 days)
  • Month-end close is on-time with clean reconciliations and leadership-ready commentary.

  • Treasury and merchant funds monitoring is standardized with clear exception handling.

  • Budget/forecast cadence is operating with leadership trust in the numbers.

  • Audit readiness improves (clean schedules, faster request turnaround).

  • Zero late filing fees/penalties with a clear compliance calendar and owners.

  • Compliance/Risk gets reliable, timely finance support for regulatory obligations.

  • 2–3 finance workflows improved via automation/AI (time saved, fewer errors).
