A leading agricultural technology firm in Singapore is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join their crop science team. The role involves conducting post-harvest experiments, monitoring plant growth, and providing consultancy to partner farms. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of food technology or food science and be eager to learn. The position offers hands-on experience in high-tech farming practices, along with mentorship from an interdisciplinary team of experts in crop science and engineering.
As a member of the crop science team, you will play a critical role in the post-harvest process in keeping our produce fresh and food safe. In addition to performing crop science experiments, your specialisation role begins after the harvesting of crops shelf life evaluation and auditing, food packaging analysis, sensory evaluation, waste valorisation and new product development. It is important that you work well with a team and are comfortable working closely with farm engineers, farm managers and business development executives.
What we Expect from you?
Explore new ideas to improve crop quality and yield through literature review and other resources
Design and conduct experiments to determine the effects of growing conditions on plant growth and expand crop recipes for our partner farms
Monitor, investigate and identify problems with plant growth in the lab as well as the farm
Perform farm operations (seeding, transplanting, harvesting), basic lab operations (sampling and analysis), and managing laboratory
Provide consultancy and auditing services to our partner farms
Requirements
At least 6 months of internship period
Knowledge in food technology or food science
Able to research on new information including literature review, design experiments, solve problems using scientific methods
Prior experience in horticulture not required, but must be keen to learn on the job
Humble team-player who is enthusiastic, keen to learn & hard-working
Bonus Requirements
Research experience
Knowledge in plant physiology, plant pathology or experiments on plants
Variety in experiences, e.g. internships, competitions, CCA in different fields
Contribute to Singapores food security and safety
Mentorship opportunity under an interdisciplinary team of crop scientists, engineers & business development executives
