Job description
Purpose of the Job:

Support the overall manufacturing business through engineering process control, the development of precision complex machining, tooling and NC programming design, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure profitable growth. This includes establishing machining processes, conducting process reviews, overseeing various aspects of engineering processes, and performing cost analysis related to machining manufacturing. Oversee the daily operations of the machining department.

This role requires a deep understanding of the entire machining process, from interpreting engineering drawings to estimating production hours and optimizing efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, this role is responsible for new production development, cost reduction initiatives, and implementing automation processes.

Key Job Accountabilities:
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to determine machining requirements and ensure compliance with technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Supervise the entire machining process, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards. Monitor machining processes, establish MasterCAM and SolidCAM programs to understand the functions of each machine in the factory. Provide technical reviews for machining and tooling design in precision machining.
  • Analyze current production processes and identify areas for improvement. Implement strategies to reduce production hours and enhance efficiency. Lead machining part development, process development, and scrap reduction. Design and develop fixtures to improve machining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Train and mentor engineers to support their career development and instill a sense of urgency in engineering activities for the manufacturing business.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the machining department. Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate best practices into operations.
  • Establish Industry 4.0 automation robotic processes, including project planning, cost budgeting, ROI review, resource allocation, technical review, and timeline management.
  • Foster sustainability projects to implement energy savings, a culture of lean, and industry waste reduction. Ensure all machining operations adhere to safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for the team.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in leading and mentoring the engineering team.
  • Perform other duties as directed by senior management.

Required Experience and Qualifications:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tools, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Experience with production planning, quotation preparation, and time estimation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (MasterCAM, SolidCAM, AutoCAD) and other relevant engineering tools.
Technical Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organized for liaising with customers for technical product reviews.
  • Experience in designing fixtures for machining processes.
  • Proficiency in SAP, GD&T, Solidworks, SolidCAM, AutoCAD; MasterCAD is an advantage.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
