JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The purpose of this role is to manage, direct, monitor and control the SMU maintenance activities and resources. Implementation of policy, aims and objectives set by the SMU Management Team. Co‑ordination and management of the Aircraft and Specialist Team’s activities in support of the SMU programme. You will protect and assure aircraft airworthiness by maintaining the quality of on‑aircraft activities and the supporting documentation. Demonstrating leadership skills and a proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel. Responsible for direct line management of Avionic and Mechanical Senior Supervisors. You may also be required to work and supervise outside normal boundaries. Such working is subject to the requirements of the SMU Quality System.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Monitors and subsequently takes all necessary actions to ensure the aircraft within SMU remain on schedule as defined in the SMU programme
  • Prioritise tasks in liaison with the SMU Maintenance Manager, Aircraft Team Leader and other Supervisors.
  • Monitoring the planned maintenance activities of the SMU Maintenance Teams and Specialist teams, Highlight to the SMU Maintenance Manager, Aircraft Team Leader and other Senior Supervisors, any issues likely to impact the aircraft programme.
  • Maintain the technical quality and airworthiness of Typhoon aircraft by assuring individual inspection standards meet the requirement of the RSAF/DA approved technical publications, M&CA Mandates and the SMU QMS.
  • Monitors the forecast date for demands and in liaison with the SMU Maintenance Manager, Aircraft Team Leader and other Supervisors, places on the ‘critical list’ any that are likely to impact the programme.
  • Request additional resources to boost productivity when these are available.
  • Monitors outstanding ‘loans requests’ and highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager and in the Maintenance Status briefing any that are likely to impact the programme.
  • Monitors outstanding ‘request for technical assistance’ and highlights to the SMU Maintenance Manager and in the Maintenance Status briefing any that are likely to impact the programme.
  • Chairs the Daily Start Up Meetings (DSUMs).
  • Provides twice weekly Maintenance Status briefings to the SMU Management Team.
  • Deputise for Maintenance Manager in their absence.
  • Limiting the requirement for overtime by effective planning.
  • Investigates and provides reports on technical issues and accident/incident events of both Customer product and personnel.
  • Ensures their authorisations are current for the tasks in hand.
  • Complies with the requirements of the SMU Quality Systems and RSAF Technical orders and publications.
  • Assist the QA department with investigations arising from Customer enquiries and complaints.
  • Prepares for and co‑operates with internal/external audits.
  • Monitors Incident, Quality Engineering, Non‑conformance and Audit reports to ensure that sound maintenance practices and documentation procedures are followed at all times.
  • Investigates and provides reports on technical issues and accident/incident events.
  • Has responsibility for promoting safe working practices.
  • Has responsibility to ensure that the need to generate aircraft does not override the requirement to maintain quality standards.
  • Ensures an effective house‑keeping programme is maintained.
  • Ensures that sound maintenance practices and documentation procedures are followed at all times.
  • Upholds and Maintains duty of care towards all personnel and Customer products within your area of responsibility, whilst delivering the aircraft programme.
  • Takes the appropriate action to address any poor performance, highlighted by Managers or supervisors, by members of the Maintenance team.
  • When necessary, take appropriate action for the resolution of any disciplinary matters for any members of the Maintenance team.
  • Provides a level of direct supervision to personnel appropriate to their skills and competency to ensure that Engineering standards are maintained to the required quality standards.
  • Completes SMU forms, appropriate aircraft forms, records and maintenance documentation.
  • Complete all mandated training, ensuring training validity dates remain current.
  • Complete any other reasonable duties or requests that are made by your line management.
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Essential
  • Completion of a recognised aircraft engineering trade apprenticeship.
  • Qualified to ONC/OND/BTEC Level 3 in a relevant technical discipline Or a technical apprenticeship Or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA OR Part 66 Licensed (Current or Lapsed) or suitable equivalent technical license acceptable to M&CA.
  • Extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training.
  • Have substantial proven experience in a relevant management role.
  • Extensive experience working knowledge of EASA Part 145.
  • Excellent leadership management skills and proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel.
  • Business unit level awareness of circumstances outside the organisation.
  • The successful candidate, Saudi or Expatriate must obtain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level, prior to starting the new role or commencing employment in KSA. SCE membership must be maintained throughout their employment in this role.
Desirable
  • Experienced – Certifying Engineer and extensive BAE Systems supervisory experience within the area of definition.
  • Previous experience of working with an electronic quality management tool.
  • Knowledge of: RSAF maintenance procedures and practices.
  • Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge.
RECRUITMENT

  • Able to describe or demonstrate a Familiar level of knowledge of Continuing Airworthiness, the aircraft types managed and the aircraft maintenance environment.
  • Able to describe or demonstrate a Familiar level of knowledge of EASA Part 145.
  • Able to describe or demonstrate a Familiar level of knowledge and experience of CA records‑related skills.
  • Previous Typhoon experience Relevant Type Specific training or Typhoon Q course.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of human factors, error management, health & safety and proactive hazard analysis, in an aviation environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical publications and complex engineering drawings.
  • Able to demonstrate a practitioner level of skills in utilisation of information management Systems.
Desirable
  • Broad Aerospace and defence industry knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of company policies & procedures.
  • Experience in using IMS/ESS/WDMS.
  • Experience in using TrilogiView.
  • Conversant with RSAF Engineering paperwork processes.
  • Experience within a Quality Assurance/Control organisation.
