Job description

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of the nursing needs, plan of nursing care, and for the implementation and evaluation of these plans for patients and their relatives. Providing a high standard of clinical nursing within the ward / department and to manage a group of patients. To take charge of the ward when required. Acting as a positive role model, always upholding the Kings nursing values, creating a professional image of the organization and the nursing team. Additionally, staff nurses effectively interact with patients and significant others, while maintaining professional standards & ethical responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Communicates with patients and their families in a kind, caring, compassionate and empathetic way.
  • Ensure patient concerns are addressed and dealt with promptly and sensitively.
  • Promote equality and diversity ensuring the individual needs of all patients are recognized and met
  • Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
  • Educates patients on medical and surgical conditions.
  • Records patients’ medical information and vital signs accurately, escalating when these deviate from normal.
  • Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and interprets and records electronic displays.
  • Escalate concerns in a patient’s condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff.
  • Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.
  • Provides bedside care for a wide variety of patients.
  • Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs.
  • Changes dressings, inserts catheters, cannulate, starts IVs.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patient.
  • Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.
  • Participates in discharge planning.
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the nursing and patient record.
  • Delivers a high standard of evidence-based care to patients at KCH Jeddah.
  • Adhere to the Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines.
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis.
  • To ensure that all patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information and presented in a sensitive way and one that they understand.
  • To uphold high standards of care in all departments of KCH Jeddah
  • Effectively handover the care of patients using SBAR process with precise and accurate information.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Participate in unit-based councils, raising areas for quality improvement in the ward.
  • Be a positive and active member of the nursing team.
  • Participate in CBAHI, JCAI assessments.
Education and Research
  • Assumes responsibility for their own professional growth by being able to identify those areas of clinical knowledge and skills that need further development.
  • Complete Nursing Competency Program within relevant timescales.
  • Participates in and uses research/ current references in the provision of evidence-based care.
  • Assists in the Orientation of new staff as assigned, assuming the preceptor role.
  • Being co-operative with the nurse roster and Floating policy as needed.
  • Maintains ongoing professional development by seeking educational opportunities to remain current in nursing practice and to meet the mandatory training and licensure requirements.
Leadership & Management
  • Assessing patient/ family needs in collaboration with the Patient and Family Educators and utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Assist the Head Nurse/Charge nurse to be innovative in designing and implementing changes that will facilitate the development of a patient centered unit.
  • Follows correct communication channels as outlined in the department policy, procedure and guideline.
  • Participate in the daily unit’s safety checks and monitors equipment and supplies in a cost-effective manner including crash carts.
  • Addresses issues using a problem-solving approach.
  • Act for the Charge Nurse as required.

  • Being a professional role model through encouraging accountability and advancing the nursing practices.
  • Responsible for the confidentiality of information that they access or come across during their work at the KCH.
  • Responsible for complying with the hospital code of conduct and the patient and family rights standards.

Qualifications

  • Communication skills – able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and able to work with and through others.
  • Problem solving skills – able to respond to unexpected issues and provide first line responses and to identify appropriate sources of secondary support.
